Advice before it gets worse, first year student

  • Thanks Fishy, a big part of the mark is peer marking, and my main focus is not p******g them off, as know I can pull up on my essays and lab reports. I did not realise I had signed up to a module like this. It is almost a module which is trying to make us appropriate for work in the future, but it is hard for me, as have had been in a work environment many times in team meetings, so have to juggle not saying much, taking a backseat, which is no problem, but also trying to make sure the group are performing and not acting like my kids used to. I feel their annoyance, and the power struggle between them all, where I just stand back. This is the worse module of the whole course and causing me stress, as my anxiety is having a will of it's own, like something apart from me.

And so, as sod's law works, went to see mum today on my dat off from lectures, and she presents me with a letter from the vicar, about an All souls day service at 12 midday tomorrow, where dad will be mentioned. My life as a mature student and carer is really getting to me.

Of course I will take her. It is a small countryside church. Cannot even be bothered explaining to uni, as was informed today by letter sent to mother from the vicar, as an invitation, so evidence?

The temptation to go into Mum mode is strong sometimes lol

That said today one of the students approached ME for advice as he felt like a fish out of water ...and he's only 18 so it's not just the mature students who find it challenging . I spoke to a lecturer after and told her about the conversation and she was happy with the advice I gave and who I had suggested was the right person to approach ,

Quite excited today as our local cathedral was at an employability event today and are looking for volunteers to do some work with some interesting WW2 documents that have come to light, I'm loving a lot of the extra stuff above the course my uni offers.

  • I am being bullyed by a lecturer, my course leader, what the heck do I do?

She sent me an email to turn up after my lecture on Monday, very curt and very rude.

I spoke to my disabiaty advisor, who agreed it was rude, then advised me to reply politely, asking why, copying her into the email.

I have now got a reply saying an issue requires a face to face meeting.

Does this sound disciplinary? I have no idea why, but it could be this group thing.

Where do I stand? Have no idea what it is about, but also feel that this lady has a duty to know about disabled students and treat them accordingly.

In my DSA report- which was late, only out Friday 1 Nov, my extreme anxiety mentioned. This has setme off on a level beyond words.

Have joined SU, and they getting back to me, but any other help can access? Have contacted my MH support worker hub, as he is on holiday this week,

    Please,please advise

You have not said anything which implies bullying - you have simply been asked to see her. You should attend, taking your support worker with you if you need to.

Must disabled students want to be treated as normally as possible. What would you like your tutor to do to help you?

Have not described it all Jacques.

Definition of bullying::use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force them to do something.

Exactly what has happened to me regarding this lecturer..

She is the course leader, and, as my DSA came late, report only on 1 November, they are unaware of my problems, but that does not make it right for her ignorance.

    Student support are helping me.

well thanks Dunroamin, for stopping my thread.

It was intended to encourage you to give more information so that people could advise you better!

You still haven't said in what way you feel she's bullying you.
  • As my DSA assessment only came through on the 1st November, she has obviously no idea how she has exacerbated my anxiety, as in the rudeness of her emails, supported by student support services.

Rude, aggressive and condescending, without prior thought or evidence as to why you treat a person in that way- that is bullying.

You're clearly upset, but I'm not sure how you think we can be of any help when we have absolutely no idea what has actually happened!
