If you have them still use their web complaint submission, they respond within 24hrs and i find that its easier to get your point across.

    Where is this?
  • Hi all

I have been with Virgin Media for my telephone line and broadband for a number of years. I have absolutely no problem with the service (although I pay for 4MB I am not sure I get it but no too bothered by this) but I am paying £41 a month for the phone and internet. I do not use the phone as a phone, just have my Sky+ box plugged into it so this is not for call charges.

When Virgin was NTL, every 3 months I would ring up and get a discount, bringing the bill down to between £18 and £23 a month, which was acceptable. Since Virgin have taken over I have been trying, in absolute vain for a number of months to try and speak to someone about getting a discount. However, despite ringing countless times and sending emails to which I have had no reply, I have not been able to contact them. I have been ringing on the number stated on my bill.

It is not really an option for me to change to Sky broadband (which I would like to do) as I would need a BT line which I cannot get without paying a reconnection fee as I was cut off for non-payment a few years ago when I was in a less than fortunate financial situation.

So my questions for you are

    1. Do you think I would be able to reconnect to BT for free if they are desperate for new customers?
    and
    2. Does anyone have any phone numbers/advice on what to do re my Virgin Media problem?

    Thanks all

    1. No.

    2. 0800 0520184 - Thats customer retentions. Its pointless calling the main number or emailing them as the only team which can change the cost of your bill is the customer retentions team.

Worst ISP? I wouldn't say that, their actual broadband product (cable) is fantastic. Only issues i have with them is incorrect bills, however if i call its sorted out there & then.

As in you want to be able to get on the net without using your phone line (or cable line, as your case might be)?

There are 3G modems that'll do that, but they're pretty expensive, and expensive to use as well. They're only really meant for people who NEED net access while they're out and about, or people who can't get a proper broadband connection.

Depending on where you live, some ISPs offer a wireless service, but there aren't too many places you can get that.

Why do you want a net connection specifically without using your phone line? Not all ISPs are as bad as VM you know. :)
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

You can get 3 broadband for £15 a month with a 3GB limit and a free modem if you sign up for an 18 month contract

Check if it works in your area

Much like my thread. Their broadband product is very good - though I believe it was better, touching 'excellent' back when 10mb was the top speed. No throttling, superb uptime of connection, just generally top-notch.

The only thing stopping me from rating their product as excellent is the annoying throttling.

Their customer service, on the other hand, as with their commitment to existing customers, is far from 'excellent'. It's a long way short of 'very good' too. In my opinion, having been with them for over 4 years, NTL tended to have 'adequate' to 'good' customer service, and honoured their retention offers. Virgin don't even touch 'adequate' - they fail to honour commitments made to existing customers. They fail to inform existing customers if their retention 'offer' is now costing more per month than the standard charge for access to their network.

In short, they just extract the fluid from us. All I want is for them to honour the commitment made to me - £17.49 per month for 10mb of unmanaged, non-traffic-shaped, network access.

That is what I was promised in order to remain their customer.
