Davenport, our milkman hardly ever misses - he comes 3 times a week and in winter has snow tyres on the float.0

Is anyone watching the Andrew Marr show, a woman on there has just told a story about that last great storm we had. Her friend got stuck in the middle of nowhere and had to shelter, there was a man there that had also had to stop and seek shelter. And here we are years later they are happily married, would never have met but for the weather,
I'm going out now to try and get stuck somewhere, see who i meet.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Only if the transmitter loses power, or is damaged, or if the emergency services need the bandwidth, I'd imagine.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

POLLY mobiles should be ok unless the phone masts are damaged, in which case they are unlikely to work. If they do work there may be a lot of pressure on the mobile networks if the landlines aren't working so it might not be easy to call instantly, hope that helps, Lyn xxx.
He Who Knows has just pointed out that if the power goes off cordless telephones will NOT work, you'll need an old fashioned corded phone to plug in and then it should work.0 -
Custardy and SailorSam, it may well be nowhere near as bad as the tabloids want us to believe, but for Hubby, for instance, it doesn't take much of a increase in gusts before driving becomes 'interesting'. Especially as his employer loves sending class 1's down tiny country lanes to stores in the middle of nowhere - to all the lorry drivers out there, live the dream!
I noticed that Custardy and Sailor Sam are from areas of the country that weren't so badly affected by the '87 storm.
Guys, all I can say is, unless you went through that night, it's difficult to imagine what it was like, so you'll excuse us if we are 'getting the wind up' about all this. I don't really want to spend another night like that in my lifetime.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Well I am going to cut the last of my dahlias and bring them inside. Don't suppose they will look too good after braving the winds tonight so they may as well add a little brightness indoors. Stay safe everybody!:hello:  please play nicely children !0

Already rainy and very windy up here in West Yorkshire, thought, we were supposed to be on the edge of it all , hope it doesn't get any worse.0

I was nearly a teenager during the '87 storm. I woke up during the night to tell my parents that the power had gone - bet they appreciated that hehe. None of the trees out the front of the house fell down so I didn't realise the damage until I went to school. The woods next to the school were devastated and I spent a good few years volunteering, clearing and replanting. The woods now look great but I have my fingers crossed that they aren't as badly hit this time round.Spam Reporter Extraordinaire

Washings is lashing in the wind here as well, getting a decent blow while the sun is out.
Wonder if the panickers have cleared the emporium shelves yet. I reckon Toilet Paper and Bread will be shot by noon.,0
