yes, I can laugh now and the kids still remember it (but without the fear). BUT, me and OH were scared **itless! we had been through some storms in the 'van, and trusted it. and Trusted that twit Michael Fish. if we had had warning we wouldn't have stayed - we were only 35 minutes from home.
it was the most terrifying night of my life - if those tethering chains had broken we would possibly have died.
my 'van had two bedrooms, but neither were used that night, instead we made up the 'spare' double in the dining room and the kids slept on the 'banquettes'. and they did sleep!!!!!!!amazingly the kids slept, and me and OH kept vigil. The NOISE was incredible, it sounded as if the van was being pelted by bricks! but it was just the rain and incredibly there was no damage! we couldn't believe that..........next morning when we inspected the outside it was dirty and bits of debris was all over it ...........but no real damage!
Then there was that awful feeling of being 'airborne' - I couldn't even contemplate being on a hovercraft now - it just would bring back those memories.
I loved that 'van and we had more years of happy holidays there. I almost felt that 'she' looked after us!

We don't get hurricanes in the UK, only storms, as the seas around us aren't warm enough.

We get cyclones instead. They can be just as dangerous, and as strong as, hurricanes. Fortunately they usually stay well to the west of us.

Why can't our Met office produce forecasts like this one, from the GFS model. Click the anim button and you'll see what I mean. http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/gfse_cartes.php
Storms lined up like a row of jets waiting to land at Heathrow, all being carried safely to the north of us, thank goodness. Even this storm looks like hopefully t will make quite a quick transition across southern England and Wales.

The big swirly bit has disappeared now.Nothing there but something off in the distance. Is that what we're expecting or has it just gone off?

Try the infrared option instead. It looks like it has just started it's turn towards the north, from the latest animation.

Tori - Supposedly this evening at some point!

Looking outside the window now, it's already fairly windy... I'll be nipping up town when the shops open for a few bits.

Luckily, it's half term this coming week, so I don't need to get anywhere on Monday morning!

Between midnight and 3 am should be the peak for Cornwall. Showing 64 mph for Lizard, Looe and Plymouth at 3 am.

From what I can see the winds are going to increase as they move eastwards, so the southeast gets the worst of it later tomorrow morning, and maybe Holland gets it even worse!

Given Cornwall regularly gets 60+ mph winds without a lot of fanfare I'm wondering whether this is much out of the ordinary for that county.

We've had a lot of 70moh gales here and the noise is the worst bit for me.

According to the Met office the gusts of wind have been downgraded by 10mph roughly for Monday in the Midlands.

Making the most of it... I've just put a load of washing outside, it's a bit blustery with blue skies for now and I'm sure it'll all be dry in no time :D

Edit: and the Met Office app is giving max gusts of 60mph for my location overnight, so nothing too bad really. Though obviously we won't know for sure what the storm will actually do until it does it :p right now everything is "best guess" based on models etc, the storm might not follow the assumptions.
