I guess somebody had better ask what is wrong with the current diesel Focus that you have? Why for instance have you decided to change from a diesel to a petrol?0

It's getting a bit long in the tooth (11 years old), and starting to need bits doing to it.
I want to get rid, before it lets me down big style.
I've already had a couple of close calls, where it nearly didn't make it home under its own steam. Why for instance have you decided to change from a diesel to a petrol?
I haven't.
I'll happily have another diesel, if I can find a good one, at the right price.0 -
We have several cars, the missus is not mechanically sympathetic, a Volvo V50 estate is doing well, 1.6 diesel we get 65-70 mpg and tax is £20 a year, it's a focus engine apparently, on a 59 plate, on the road it is quick enough. On that basis I would urge anyone to consider a V50 or focus with that engine.
My missus asked me to run her somewhere after which I needed to go to Huntingdon and back from Royston, she left no fuel in it, to prove a point I zeroed the computer and drove at 65mph roughly, in neutral down hills, got 91 mpg on the round trip.
Takes two large dogs in the boot too0 -
Anyone know anything about the Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 CDTi 16V Breeze [150]?0

Not the most reliable engine Fiat have ever made and the breeze is low spec. Have you considered an Astra H 04-10?0 -
Jaguar X-Type 2.0d Classic?
The reason I'm asking about so many cars is, I have another Window open, in which I'm browsing the Drive24 website.
BTW. Does anyone have an opinion on ex police cars?
I appreciate they will tend to have high mileages but, presumably, they will have been properly and regularly serviced?0 -

Is that the mpg that the car tells you or what you've confirmed for yourself? It might be possible with say lots of long distance driving at 60mph but for normal driving this sounds a little too good...it's a focus engine apparently,
If it's the same as the 1.6 TDCi in a Focus that is not a good thing I'm afraid. An engine with one of the worst reputations going I'm afraid, although more with earlier versions I think.0 -

I would guess rather expensive to insure and repair? And not desperately economical for a diesel. The reason I'm asking about so many cars is, I have another Window open, in which I'm browsing the Drive24 website.
How about you let us know roughly where you live to see if anyone can find you somthing to suggest? I've never tried Drive24, but do look at Autotrader as well as there are far more cars listed there.
I assume you didn't fancy the Octavia idea I posted earlier? They have a huge boot BTW.
Other than your reliability concerns, have you liked your current Focus? Anything you want your new car to do differently?0 -
As you're asking lots of questions, two websites you might find useful for car info are:
https://www.parkers.co.uk
and to give you some real world fuel economy data:

I live close to Bury, Lancashire.Other than your reliability concerns, have you liked your current Focus? Anything you want your new car to do differently?
Yes, I've liked the Focus.
Can't say I want the new car to do anything different.
Given where I live (way up in the hills) a 4X4 would be ideal, but I don't think I could stretch to one.
I've just found a local(ish) dealer, with a 56 plate Mondeo 2.0TDCi 115 Zetec [Euro 4] (78,000 miles), for £3.5k.
I'll pop along tomorrow and take a look.0
