Out of these three cars, which would you be leaning toward?

If you are considering diesels, I would look at C4 diesels. The C4 is a great car (I'm on my third), The petrol engines are okay, but the diesels are excellent - very refined and incredibly economical. You also get low-rate road tax with the smaller diesel engines.

I'd rather spend £4k on fireworks than waste it on a 1.6hdi.0

50 miles per day, to and from work, mostly by Motorway.
Including other journeys, about 15k per year.0 -

BTW a Micra has ample head room for a 6 footer, not sure on a Yaris.
Yes a 6 footer would fit in a Yaris, plenty of head and leg room.0 -
+ 1 for the Avensis too0

55 plate Avensis.
58 plate Corsa.
58 plate C4.

I was thinking more in terms of my earlier questions relating to performance, fuel economy and image. Plus how large a car do you actually want?
From your journey description I may as well just suggest my own car, a diesel Skoda Octavia. Something like this:

OK, so here they are.
All are petrol, and all cost about the same (around £200pa) to tax.
Any thoughts?
2005 Ford Focus Cmax - 1800cc - £1,995
2007 Citroen C4 - 1600cc - £3,495
2005 Vauxhaul Zafira - 1600cc - £3,495
2007 Vauxhaul Vectra - 1800cc - £3,795
2005 Toyota Avensis - 1800cc - £2,9950 -
Just sold a VW Passat 03
Wish I'd kept it now.0 -

Performance doesn't have to be breathtaking, provided it can cruise at 70, and not be beaten away from the lights by push-bikes.
Good(ish) fuel economy would be an advantage, with me doing about 1,000 miles per month, just travelling to work and back.
Image isn't that important, although I'd draw the line somewhere before a powder pink Fiat 500.Plus how large a car do you actually want?
I don't need a HUGE car, but I do tend to grocery shop in one go, and collect larger items (eg. fridges), rather than have them delivered, so a decent boot (preferably with fold flat seats) would be useful.0
