When we had a real Christmas tree we usually put it up about ten days before Christmas. Now that we have an artificial tree it goes up earlier - usually in the first week of December.

I miss having a real tree but I love having the decorations up for longer.
  • We will be putting up a real tree as we did last year once the IKEA offer starts on 6th December. You pay £25 for a really good tree which is very resistant to dropping its needles and get a £20 voucher to spend in-store during late Jan early feb (check the dates) so if you're an IKEA shopper this is a great deal. We also bought the proper stand which I think was about £5 last year.
    What a Bargain!!:j

My daughter was born on 18 December so the tree was always up and decorated in time for her birthday, usually the weekend before.

  • We tend to put ours up around 6th-10th - whichever is the weekend....It has got earlier over the last few years and being bored last year (that is my excuse and I will stick to it!), I put up the decs on 1st Dec.
One rule which never changes though is taking them down on 1st Jan.....I do not want to go back to work with them still up!
  • Family tradition is that the kids put it up when they get home on last day of school - worked beautifully until there's no schoolkids in the house lol! However we still carry it on even so - its our family tradition so there!

Tree goes up a couple of days before Christmas and comes down by 12th night. It looks bare afterwards, but it has been up quite long enough by then.
Ideally I would put the tree up on Xmas Eve and take iit down on 27th, but there is too much else going on then.

I absolutely LOVE Christmas trees. For me, Christmas is the only enjoyable thing about winter (other than snow), and I feel like I need it to get through the season.

My (artificial) tree will probably be going up sometime in (early-mid) November. I like to have it up for as long as possible, as it is a bit faffy to put it up and take it down, so I want as much enjoyment out of it as possible. It's fairly usual for me to still have my tree up in mid-January. I think I left it until early March one particularly dismal and wintery year.

I especially love baubles. Almost all of mine are glass ones which I've individually chosen, rather than plastic multi-packs. Usually pick up a couple in the Jan sales every year. I don't have normal tinsel because I think it looks tacky on trees and detracts from the lovely baubles, but I do drape a few strands of lametta, for extra sparkle.

And then coloured lights, which I have on every evening, on a remote controlled plug socket so I can turn them off from bed. Yes, the tree takes up precious room in my tiny studio flat, but it's worth it.

If I had more than one room, I'd like to dedicate one to being a Christmas tree forest all year round, and I'd have each tree with a different colour theme, and I'd go and sit in there whenever I needed cheering up.

(I'm honestly not crazy, I just really love Christmas :o)

We always put our real Christmas tree up about 2 weeks before Christmas and leave it up till 12th night. If we had an artificial tree I would put it up earlier as I love having all the lights and tinsel brightening up long winter evenings. I feel sorry for people who can't see the enjoyment in such simple pleasures and it makes me smile to see/hear of others who love Christmas.
  • Always 1st December.......can't get festive until December, despite the best attempts of advertisers !
