I've been reading these forums for a while and have finally been moved to post by this fascinating thread, as I've been looking around for a decent N95 deal for a few weeks now.
I'm on O2 at the moment (have been for almost 2 and a half years.)
My phone started playing up a few weeks back (think the battery is dying but may be more serious) so I decided to upgrade/change networks and settled on the N95 as my first-choice handset.
As everyone else has found, 02 are making no effort to hold on to customers, not offering anything (on any handset) better than the online deals.
Going round the shops, Orange initially offered the best deal - N95 for £80 on a £35pm tariff with a £150 credit to my bill. I was still shopping around at that stage but went in a week or so later with the intention of taking the deal -- but the same guy who offered me it said it had expired and he could only give me £100 credit, so I left it.
Anyway, was looking around the net yesterday (Saturday) and found this thread, so I called Vodafone this afternoon (Sunday, July 1).
The incredibly cheerful chap who answered became considerably less cheerful when I told him which deal I was after. He said they had stopped offering that deal. I asked when, knowing that someone on here got it yesterday, hoping to catch him out... but he went away for a minute and came back and told me it finished at the end of the month. Foiled!
Bottom line, he'd only offer me 6months at £13.50 and 12 at £27... plus £100 for the hadset! Needless to say I said I'd think about it and bid him good day.
Obviously, I'l keep trying over the next few days and hope for the best.
But I'd certainly be interested in hearing if anyone else manages to get the deal now (or got it yesterday (Sunday), so I can use that if they try to tell me it ended on Saturday again.
Just as a footnote, I am slightly under time pressure, as I'm off on holiday in a couple of weeks and need my new handset up and running (hopefully with my current number ported over) by then.
To be honest, the Vodafone offer is still the best I've had - total cost over 18months is £505 (~£28pm) compared to £560-£610 for Orange (depending on whether I get the £100 or £150 credit) -- but obviously I'm loathe to sign up when the deal in this thread was so much better (£283 total!).
Sorry for rambling. And thanks for all the info and advice and great posts!0 -

Ive got to send mine back tomorrow for reasons explained upthread. Can people who also received the phone confirm what was in their box ? as I dont need them accusing me of not returning it all. Was your ciggy adaptor a seperate Vodafone one ? or did it come in the box ??0

I had the phone, manuals, memory card, headphones/controller + 2 cables (USB and TV). I didn't get the car charger in the package although it is meant to be coming today.0 -
Dont worry about the branding, my N95 arrived yesterday and thanks to this:
http://clear-nokia.blogspot.com/2007/05/nokia-n95-debranding-guide.html
it is now "debranded" and now working as Nokia intended.
Hi N20Y1D,
Can you please clarify this. If you debrand the voda n95 you regains access to the builtin VOIP app?
Thanks

Hi,
I was fortunate enough to order the phone on Thursday, and receive it on Friday.
I was a returned phone, and came with a car charger, regular charger, USB lead, and TV out lead. I managed to get a BT headset out of them as well - which I cannot synch with!!
There were some queries though - app you cannot PORT your existing number over? Is that correct? I have had my current number for more years than I care to remember and have moved from One-2-One (T-Mobile) to 02, and retained the number. I was told that I cannot port to Vodaphone. Anyone know if this is correct?
Also, on the subject of getting O2 to match a deal - I got nowhere. Spole to the customer retentions and explained with i was offered. The person there was insistent that this is a cashback deal and I should read the T&Cs VERY carefully. On multiple ocassions, I told him tha this was DIRECT from Vodaphone and there was no claiming back mechanism ... unfortunately it was falling on cloth ears ....
Anyone care to tell me if they have mangaged to get O2 to provide a 'decent' deal? One day I want to be the pigeon...... and not the statue!0
