Dreading Halloween...

If I were you I'd just sit at the back with lights off like everyone else has suggested.
I'm lucky in that we won't get any kids knocking - I thoroughly hate Halloween.
Our house looks like 1 big house from the front so kids normally knock on the main front door, but its actually 2 houses and our front door is tucked down the side and not many people know that theres a door there.0 -
If you think rationally, the worst they'll do is throw an egg at your house as anything else they can be arrested for...it's more than likely going to rain anyway, so the egg will wash off really quickly.
Egg does NOT wash off easily or quickly - it congeals and sticks then dries solid. I have had my house egged a few times now (a few years ago after reporting a local hooligan for assaulting my son). I had to use a pressure washer to get it off and then it took off the paint work and looked worse! Hopefully they've grown up and out of it now. Last year we went on holiday to avoid Halloween and I still came home to an egged house so now it's easier to just answer the door and give sweets - but I control how many they get!0 -
No one will knock on my door, Just got an Alsatian.0

When I was younger, some rough kids from our area in North London egged our house, so my stepdad chased after them, only 2 days after having a vasectomy!0

I love Halloween, whether going out with children or staying in handing out sweets, but then, no one around my way throws eggs. It is the only time of year that children are given sweets by complete strangers and I even find the teenagers willingness to put on some half baked costume for a few sweets amusing. Obviously if people were throwing eggs I would be less enchanted.0

I've never seen eggs in the 17 years I've lived here. I think if some kids started to throw eggs I'd be tempted to throw eggs back at those children, or put some dye into a water pistol and fire it at them
Luckily it's all quite civilised here. My neighbours always put up a 'don't knock' sign from the police and nobody has ever knocked. I don't think anyone knocks at houses that aren't decorated anyhow.
I sometimes think the smaller children should be with an adult, but that's just me being overprotective. I also remember scare stories from when I was a child (designed to stop us from trick or treating, I suppose) of strangers putting razor blades, poison, glass etc. into sweets  It probably wasn't true, but still, my kids don't go to houses they don't know.52% tight0 -
I think I need to move!
Our corner shop has put a sign up saying they're not selling eggs or flour to under 18s until after 31st October. Doesn't stop the little darlings taking them out of the cupboards/fridge though!0 -
I make up bags filled with sweets and hand them out to the kids that way they can't grab all the good sweets and leave you with a bowel full of monkey nuts that nobody wants!!0

Ha-ha I forgot about monkey nuts! It was always them and satsumas that me and my sister used to grumble about getting!!!0

Sadly I think there may be some basis for the scare stories, years ago I remember one nasty old devil putting chilli powder on lollys,
he bragged that it was his trick.Slimming World at target0
