Dreading Halloween...

I picked up a flyer / poster in my village post office today to put up at my door, essentially announcing that trick'n'treaters aren't welcome (quite politely). I don't know if all post offices have them but it might be worth you having a look?0

My blooming front door is sticking due to have swollen in all this rain (again) so anyone who comes to my door will be met with a loads of 'effing and jeffing from me!!
Plan for Halloween is to stay in and not answer door. Mind you last few years I have bought treats and no one showed up! Maybe they think we are the nutters in our street! Could be as we both work late all the littlies have been and done trick or treating before we get home!0 -
Oh wow, I just don't have the bad Halloween experiences some of you do or are expecting to do.
I never went out myself as a kid as I'd never heard of it, so no-one came round. I saw it for the first time on a Charlie Brown cartoon when I was 18 and working f-time.
I've taken out my kids from an early age, telling them they could only knock at houses where decs were up (cos those are the ones participating). Never been told to go away - due to the houses we call at. Occassionally the sweets have run out, we say Thank You and leave. I don't have a stash of eggs or toilet roll in my handbag. I was always with kids or at the end of the drive once they were older.
And back at home, in turn I have decs up so the kids know they can call. Never had a young child without an adult calling and the teens that call are the younger age range (upto 14-ish), dressed in costume but within a group. Never had any grab handfuls of sweets, if I had I'd do what another poster said and hand them out individually. Never had any demand money either.0 -
Find it bad that some people still get people knocking at 10pm. There is no way I would answer the door after 9pm.
Had to laugh earlier as mentioned this thread to OH who said it's ok for you you're out already! Thank goodness for that I replied ....smirking.0 -
IF you are unlucky enough to get egged and it happens to not be raining that night, wash it off as soon as possible. Dried egg on windows is a real pain (no pun intended)0

I don't mark Halloween in any way If someone is at the door I would answer but they won't get anything as I've never had anyone yet.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Have a look in you local library for a 'Do not knock' poster, I got mine from there and have it on display it every year.
I hate the trick or treating thing and I never let my children do it, which didn't go down too well.
I have heard friends say that once they open the door to one lot of people the bell never stops. It's as though they watch and see who answers before descending en masse.0 -
I think these posters and stickers are more likely to make you a target for an egging?0

Trick or Treat evolved from the Scottish tradition of Guising which the Scots who emigrated took with them to US
And you had to do your 'wee turn' or 'party piece' before you got some monkey nuts and a few sweeties, maybe an apple, or - if you hit the motherlode- some homemade tablet or a toffee apple :T.
I don't live in the most brilliant of areas, and there are a few 'roasters' around, but I've never heard of anyone's house getting egged or anything like that.
The people round here who do Hallowe'en generally put some stuff in bags, and hand the bags out to the kids who come to the door. When it's done, it's done.
If I were the OP, I would let her scary sounding dog do the work of scaring away the Hallowe'en callers.0
