Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two

joedenise said:Depends how much you want to spend! If you don't want to spend too much then I'd suggest things like bread which are quite bulky but cheap. Milk freezes well too; again cheap & bulky.
I'd go with batch cooking some things like bolognaise sauce and freeze in portions. Buy 'building blocks' like chicken which you can make loads of meals from. Mince again making loads of different things from.
If you find it it costing you too much to fill as a temporary measure turn empty cardboard boxes upside down to fill a bit a space, removing them as and when you can afford to fill your freezer with lots of meats; vegetables and HM ready meals.3 -
Elisa, I find the supermarket bakery loaves freeze well enough - they're not usually in there for more than a month at most. I tend to cut them in half, that way I'm not trying to get through a whole loaf before it stales

I said this on another thread.....
But I'm going to set an alarm on my mobile phone at 9pm to remind me to take something out of freezer for dinner.
On a side note does anyone have any recommendations for hoot sized heavy zipl-ock bags that are suitable for the freezer2 -

Otherwise I can sit and come up completely short on ideas
Then I shop/take things out of the freezer accordingly. Takes seconds if you already have an idea!
Meals days are not set in stone, often will decide that sausage&mash I actually want to make tomorrow, not Thursday for example, or cauli will go off before that mac&cheese is on the menu!
My OH loves gadgets and bought food vacuum sealer, it's great for when I shop bulk in Costco.
Otherwise Aldi have good zip lock bags. 3 sizes I think-I buy medium they fit 2-3 chick breast nicely or up to 2-3lb of diced beef4 -
