Finally used up a packet of icing sugar which has been in my cupboard for so long, we are talking at least years. I don't think I will be buying that again in a hurry.

Used up a bag of walnuts and finished my mixed dried fruit.

Finally used a frozen bag of vegetarian chicken pieces, a frozen pack of puff pastry and a tin of mushrooms - made a nice vegetarian chicken & mushroom pie. Easy to make and sorted dinner for tonight.

Has anyone ever frozen mash potato. I tried the other day but I think I need to add far more milk/butter/cream than usual because when I tried to reheat it, it felt quite dry not creamy - any ideas?
Sorry been awol due to having visitors. I freeze mash all the time as I love it but it's a pain just to make one portion. What works for me is to either a) freeze it just mashed with no butter/milk added and add it when reheating or b)to add a bit more milk than I would usually do when I'm mashing it before freezing as it does dry up a bit when reheating a) is great if you want mash for fishcakes etc. and b) if you just want a portion to "ping" in the microwave.:)

The past few days have mainly involved things going in and then back out of freezer/cupboards. I need to go through the fridge today and will update later.

I know I've been rubbish at this challenge but I feel like I'm finally making a bit of space in the freezer!

Last night used two bags of blackcurrants (poss from 2016) to make a cheesecake. Today I've made a lentil bake with a bag of frozen lentil mix and some breadcrumbs I'd forgotten about.

When looking for the blackcurrants I found lots of blackberries so realised I didn't need to buy frozen berries for my daughter's porridge after all.

I find this thread so inspiring, thank you for nudging me in the right direction!

I remembered to get some pork out of the freezer for tomorrow's dinner. Found a pack of casserole veg, some leeks from the lotty - need to find a recipe I think as my casseroles have been more Miss than hit recently.

Also defrosting some veg soup for tomorrow's lunch and found some cake. Cake! How could I forget about that? I'd brought it back from a wedding for my daughters- they can eat that while we watch Bake Off tonight.

Any suggestions for a pork casserole recipe will be gratefully received!

Pork casserole - cider and apples go well as does a creamy mustard sauce.

Since my last post (6/10/17) :-

Some "yellow-sticker" groceries were obtained last weekend but left loads behind that were "cheaply" priced. I had mixed feelings about that.

The freezer drawer containing items that I am trying to use up first is slowly being done. After that, I will think of another mini-challenge.
