Out:- large turkey breast, 3pks streaky bacon, chestnuts, 3 slices bread, pk HM icecream, 4 small turkey swiss rolls. 2 pks pork and apple sausages. Rest from cupboards, fridge and store.
In:- 12 x turkey swiss rolls, 5 x turkey plait.

DH trainer was here this Am so the 4 small turkey swiss rolls did for lunch with a salad. This meant I had none left in the freezer so the 12 new ones are the latest ones - all labelled including defrost and final cooking instructions and well packaged. There were 5 plaits not 6 as intended as one ended up being for tea, again labelled and well packaged.

I've now a total of 24 individual dinners frozen - but no accompaniments, 2 lunches and 10 puddings. I've estimated I need 70 in each category.

Has anyone ever frozen mash potato. I tried the other day but I think I need to add far more milk/butter/cream than usual because when I tried to reheat it, it felt quite dry not creamy - any ideas?

Worked out that in September 2017, I was within food budget.

    Since 1/10/17 -

Have been making a little progress using up sweet and savoury recipes from one freezer drawer. Also, keep removing quite bulky "yellow sticker" sliced bread. Some of the recent soup making has meant that it was refrozen but am taking one out each day, to use up with fridge perishables.

Improving upon keeping meals more simple and reducing time in the kitchen. However, doing other activities is still more difficult.

From another freezer drawer, all this years free blackberries (1235 gr) have been finished, excluding some that remain in a few recipes such as desserts, jam and homemade vinegars. Other vinegar recipes have had some old spices added.
  • In: macadamia & cashew nuts
Out: 1 bag shallots (have caramelized and will make into filo tarts or 'jam')
3 red onions (cooked as 'steaks' with maple syrup and wholegrain mustard)
1 bag new potatoes,1 bulb garlic, 2 onions,4 lemonsm(made into Moroccan lemon & potato casserole)
1 bag frozen broad beans, 1 sprig mint, 1 red onion (cooked, shelled and will be served with red onion, mint and lime juice as a side)
Frozen sweetcorn, frozen pomegranate seeds, 2 oranges, 1 grapefruit (all made into a salad)

I have done a quick reccie of the cupboards and freezer....think I should have pretty much all I need for the month!! :D

    Since last Tuesday -

My online (food) grocery order was brought forward by one week by the person I share delivery costs with. My food purchases mainly covered top-ups on fresh/UHT milk and three store cupboard items (special offers on normally purchased ingredients). There was only one small fridge item ordered which is being used alongside present food "stocks".

The freezer drawer of items I am intending using up first is looking more spacious, although some of them are in the fridge to prompt me to use first! Still trying to keep things simple and create more time.

Trying to eat mainly from the fridge/cupboards today so lunch was easy egg on toast for DH and poached egg and the rest of an open packet of Uncle Ben's grains.
Tea will be a gammon steak and half a gammon steak for me. I think I'll use the remaining half tomorrow in a flan as there should be enough. Vegs out of the fridge and store. Pudding - not sure, I rather fancy making bread pudding as we have not had it for ages. Probably just make enough for one - not for me but for DH as I'm on a diet - again.
