What is it with me? I have to get this grocery spending urge under control. I'm normal with everything apart from food..........:oMy fridge is laden and my freezers crammed though in fairness I very rarely waste anything so it does (eventually) get used up!

Caronc:- that's me to a T, I also rarely waste anything but four freezers - and three are large ones - with just the two of us is ridiculous. It's almost as if I have to fill every available space with something, be it a freezer or a cupboard.
I would just love to be more normal. I cook everything from scratch and try to grow lots of veg. It would be OK if the freezers were empty at some point in the year but they always seem to be full.
I tell myself to think of all the money I'd be saving but it has little effect, I'm just a hopeless case.......0 -

I've still to sort out the fridge so nothing added to the freezer today
In: nothing
Out: rump steak, peppercorn sauce, ciabatta roll
Used up: boiled spuds (part - still a portion left)0 -
Used the huge bowl of leftover pico de gallo to make meat for burritos. Most of this is now in my freezer for many happy scrumptious burritos in our future. I can take out a portion, add beans or fried potatoes etc and cheese of course for burrito filling. I'm feeling most MSE for not wasting that pico! :AOverprepare, then go with the flow.

I've been watching on catch up the BBC 1 programme on money saving.
So being inspired I made a meal plan for this week, I used what was in the fridge as a basis and then added in what I fancied for the rest. I'm on a diet so that played a part as well, plus I tried to find things which we could both eat to keep things simple - just need to add potatoes/rice/pasta/bread for DH.
Shopping this morning came to £40.30p - it hasn't been that low for as long as I can remember.
OUT:- Today I'm using from fridge/freezer/cupboards/veg plot
cucumber, 2 eggs, LO lamb, 4 slices bread, tin baked beans, mushrooms, pk jelly, frozen berries, yogurt, cheese, nuts, apple, frozen pastry, cream. lemons (nothing from shopping)
IN:- I have over 120 eggs (my own chooks) to do something with so it I'll make lemon icecream and freeze the whites. Bought cream as I hadn't enough, and sugar. I should be able to make 10L of icecream so in the long run it will be a saving.0 -
Yesterday I was determined to eat something I'd bought and didn't really like. I had bought a box of 4 veggie burgers, two down, two to go - so yesterday I ate one of those and also used the last of a bag of frozen oven chips and 1/4 of a mug of frozen peas.
So it was all out of the freezer and nothing in!
This week I will eat the two items in the freezer that I don't really like. One is that final burger - the other item is a sweet chilli chicken thighs I cooked ... and hated.0 -
Is there anything you can add to your not-so nice meals to make them taste any better PasturesNew? I have the same problem in the winter when I keep getting Jerusalem artichokes in my veg box. Try as I might I can't like that soil-like taste they have and I always end up putting them in heavily spiced / curried soups and stews to cover it up. That only works if you like curry of course. Maybe the sweet-chilli chicken could be 'diluted' in some way by chopping it up and adding it to a tomato-based sauce with some veg as a stew / pasta sauce / baked spud topping?0
