Hi - you probably don't remember me. . . .
It's a long, long time since I was on this thread as I moved house (got down from 4 freezers full of stuff to only 1 freezer). Moved mum's house (acquired another freezer plus some food). That all happened two and a half years ago. Now mum has beginning of dementia so had to re-jig what we do about her food, which means I acquired another freezer full of food. Additionally, mum-in-law died and we got HER freezer full of food as well.
Thankfully, we have a cellar. Sadly, it is full of freezers!! I actually have 3 freezers in the cellar, one in the kitchen, and one in mum's garage - all full of food. I know - it doesn't add up. Who knows where that 5th freezer full of food came from??
As there are only two of us to eat our way through this, I feel a little overwhelmed. (Mum still has her own freezer full of food in her kitchen and that's all she needs - so I can't even sneak anything into hers).
We have two small joints of beef, a pack of oxtail pieces, a pack of 2 pigs trotters (they were 25p - I couldn't resist. Gotta find what to do with them) and pork ribs in the fridge waiting to be eaten or stuffed in freezer.
I will admit there's quite a bit of bread / rolls/ hot cross buns, etc taking up a lot of room.
Somewhere in one of the freezers I have 10 (yes, 10) small freezer bags stuffed full of chicken wings (uncooked). They were a huge pack reduced from £21 to £3. I can't resist a bargain, you see.
(Not many veggies in there. Probably frozen broccoli and some runner beans).
Took mince out of freezer last night and made chilli con carne. Will have leftovers tonight, as I can't fit them in any of the freezers.
So, joining this thread is my attempt to force myself to buy no food (apart from perishables) for the foreseeable future!!0 -
Hi Nodette
Realised I didn't post yesterday so yesterday and today:
In: nothing
Out: portion of pasta, piece of steak, haggis stuffed chicken breast, small bag of white sauce, portion peppercorn paste
Used up: slice of cooked ham and a sprouting onion0 -
Welcome back Nodette, you certainly have a mountain to climb with all that frozen food.
I did a stupid thing to day, my DH has been painting the doors leading off the kitchen and replacing the door handles. Last night he did the one between the kitchen and the room where 3 of my freezers lurk. I had strict instructions not to close the door as there was no handle on it Well today I went to a freezer, got what I needed and automatically closed the door as I came out. Now I can't open the door, the hinges are the opposite way and my DH is not too pleased.

FLORENCE j - sad day when the gin has gone0 -
Florence - Running out of gin definitely counts as an emergency.
I've got a portion of butternut squash risotto from the freezer for my lunch today and am planning to make a big fat veggie chilli with some tins of beans and veg that's lurking in the fridge this evening. I might even try and find the ancient bag of green beans I know is hiding in the freezer and add some of those too.0 -
I can't help sensing that some of you share my sometimes less than 100% enthusiasm for using up stuff that has been in the freezer a little too long! We know it goes against the grain to waste it but oh, does it always fill us with joy that we're going to enjoy every mouthful when we eat it ?
I do think this when I look at my mountain of now somewhated frosted frozen runner beans still lurking in the freezer and wonder why I'm bemoaning the failure of some of my runner bean seeds to germinate this year when in reality it's only going to perpetuate the problem:eek::rotfl:0
