Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two

So far I have spent most of my £10 mini challenge budget - £7.87 to be exact, as £7.07 was in Lidl on Saturday and 80p was spent earlier today on a loaf of bread.
I am planning on combating my tin collection today and making a ginormous veggie cottage pie for tea and many leftovers.Debt Free Stage 1 - Completed 27/08/2020

Nothing in today but a portion of haddock, oven chips and peas came out. I ended up ditching a couple of very small bananas that were yukky beyond even banana bread...0

IN
Loaf of bread, 5 x cottage pie batch cooking portions
OUT
Tin of haricot bean, tin of green beans, tin of lentils, 2 big sweet potatoes, 2 small jacket potatoes, nearly all of my carrots, frozen vegetables, 100g dried soya mince

OUT 1 frozen turkey thigh, frozen runner beans, more veg from fridge
What was left in a jar of mincemeat, filo pastry, 1 apple to make something for dessert.
Lunch was cheese, biscuits.
IN tomato soup made yesterday
The turkey thigh turned out to be a small pork roast when defrosted - ooops. Change of plan for dinner going to do a roast, with roast potatoes, veg, apple sauce etc0 -
It reminded me of a disaster once when I tipped an unlabelled bag of what I thought was chicken stock into a pan of minesteone soup I was making. It turned out to be gooseberry purree!
That did make me laugh. :-)
It did turn out to be parsnip and apple soup after all btw. I never label things so it's always a bit of a gamble but I'm yet to have a total disaster.
I've spent £3.46 so far on my mini-challenge of £5 a week for the month on some fruit and bread flour. I'm feeling quite positive about it. We're nearly a third of the way through the month already and I shouldn't have to buy anything else until next week now. I can make bread and I still have enough fresh veg (including stuff that will last a while - spuds, butternut squash, sweet potatoes and red cabbage). I've got some wilty leaves that I'm going to whizz into a pesto with some cashew nuts tonight and bung in the freezer for later in the month.0 -
IN
6 pints of Milk
OUT
Apple, Banana, Wheetabix
1 x Cottage Pie portion, packet of instant noodles, slice of bread.
Dinner will be potatoes, scampi, the rest of the carrots, etc.
I spent £1.49 on the milk, so I have spent £9.36 off my £10 budget week long challenge, just have to make it to the end of Thursday with 64p!Debt Free Stage 1 - Completed 27/08/2020

In - nothing bar a small bag of prawn shells but I still need to have the fridge sort out and I got given a bag of sausages today so will need to get these sorted out and frozen.
Out - a portion of prawns
Use up - a lemon (there is another 3 in the fruit bowl beginning to look a bit sad!)
Ditched - a few mushrooms that had gone slimy and part of a caton of cream that was hiding and had a use by of 20th April..... I thought I had a bit of whiff in the fridge but blamed a piece of blue cheese.0 -
I'm quite pleased with myself for sticking to the £10 a week for fruit and veg but I'm getting very low on fresh stuff now but I'm trying to get closer to the weekend with my bendy stuff. The housekeeping budget for this month is looking quite healthy, anything left over is going into savings for the new driveway planned for the end of the year.
I think I have enough in the fridge to last today if I'm careful, so I won't need to go diving in the freezers.0 -
My housekeeping budget I think will be blown this month, mainly I think because last month I mainly stocked up for Easter visitors so seem perpetually low on staples this month. That I've been buying loads of salady bits which I find more expensive than winter veggies.
I've still not sorted out the fridge properly but had a quick look and nothing is coming up to use by so no hurry.
In: nothing
Out: portion of spicy cous cous
Use up: 2 peppers that were just beginning to go wrinkly0 -
I had soup from the freezer again today for lunch (I'm not entirely sure what veg were in it but it was flavoured with curry spices and quite tasty) and some more leftover hm coleslaw.
Hubby is out tonight so once I got the boy to bed I made a chilli with some wilting veg and a pot of truly terrible hm baked beans from the freezer. In the chilli they were lovely though. I served this with a pitta bread and the last couple of slices of a pack of halloumi nicely fried. Dinner fit for a queen!
I'm just about to pop the leftovers in the fridge and the breadmaker is already on the timer as I've promised the boy a picnic in the park tomorrow. I'm feeling organised!0
