Eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge - part two

I had made good progress making space in the freezer and then we had a big party at the weekend and now it's full of leftovers again.
I'm also still plugging away at the stores in my cupboards and that's going to take a while as there's loads of rice, dried and tinned beans, sauces etc. I'm also going to try and see how long I can go without buying any new food. I'll probably have to get some bananas as my 4 year old eats one every day but I reckon I could go a while without anything else. I've not bought any groceries yet this month so let's see how far into May I can get buying nothing (apart from bananas).0 -

Evening all,
Bit late in logging on today as I've been out.
Ginmonster:- Why not join Frogletina and me in a mini challenge of how long we can stay away from the shops this month. We have to get creative with what we have in stock. I always seem to replace items used and never really make an inroad into what I have in stock - hence this mini challenge.
Frogletina:- Do you think we should allow ourselves a small amount for fruit, veg and milk each week. Perhaps an amount for each person in the household, and maybe a difference between adults and children. I'll wait to see what you say.
OUT:- sausage meat - frozen at Christmas, to make sausage and apple burgers. 2 slices of bread for egg on toast at lunch for DH,
I had mackerel salad both for lunch as well as dinner, dressing of olive oil, pepper and garlic. Quick and easy all out of the fridge as I'd been to the hosp this afternoon for an appt.
IN:- 5 cooked burgers (3 eaten by DH) They'll be quick and easy to grab when I'm in a rush. The only trouble is they take up as much space as the uncooked sausage meat I took out earlier0 -
Count me in Zafiro!
I'm going to have to make an exception for fresh fruit as my 4 year old eats some every day but I reckon I can make do for everything else. Let's see how much of a dent we can make in the stores!0 -

I think that's a great idea zafiro.
I'm in a household of 1 and I think £5 would be enough for a week for those items. That would get me a carton of rice milk, and enough fruit and veg. Maybe less on week 2 as bag of potatoes will last more than a week.
On 1st June I go on holiday so it would be great if I can come in at £20 for May. I usually allocate £100 a month for food and my average so far this year is about £60.

Household of 2 here so that's £10 per week for us
Welcome to the mini challenge Ginmonster.
So far so good I've not been near the shops but it is only day 30 -
Hi,
Sorry, it's been awhile since my last post (9/4/17). Then, I had commented how progress with this challenge had eventually led to things coming around "full circle" again. Since then, whilst still following this thread, "everyday life" has tended to dominate time.0 -
I think £5 a week should do me in total for two adults and one child as I have the stuff to make bread and get a regular milk delivery from the milkman which I'm not going to count. The only thing I should need to get is top ups of fresh fruit as I've got plenty of everything else in the fridge, freezer and cupboards.
Today I made pittas filled with fried cauliflower, pepper, onion and halloumi chunks served with tomato and avocado salad for lunch for myself and my boy followed by a slightly stale piece of birthday cake for him and an apple for me. His tea was a pouch of kids microwave rice with veg that had been in the cupboard since i bought it last year to feed the boy when camping at a festival and never used (you can cook them easily on a camping stove, I didn't have a microwave!) I added some extra veg to it and a diced leftover sausage. He had an apple for pud.
Hubby and I will need to eat the last few chickpea burgers tonight. Almost fed up of them now!0 -
Yesterday and today:
In - 6 linconshire sausages
Out - tin of soup, portion of chicken casserole
Use up - radishes, a slightly wrinkly apple, salad dressing and the broken ends of a box of "posh" crackers0
