Glad to have you with us Florence.
I've started with £2 worth of new potatoes, my first grocery spend of the month. I will try to spend the final £3 of the week tomorrow on fruit and veg after I have eaten lunch out with the WI lunch club. I know eating out is not part of the challenge, and it is only once a month that we meet, but it still feels like cheating

Day 4 and still no spends. I'm going to concentrate on using up the frozen vegetables and frozen fruit and will probably spend the money on salad items.
Frozen vegetables include
Jerusalem artichokes, Tomatoes Runner and french beans, courgette,s onions garlic and leeks, Jalapeno chillies and some partially cooked roast potatoes
Supermarket peas and sweetcorn. Except for the peas and sweetcorn all the above were Home Grown last year and need to be used up before the next lot is ready. Looks like casseroles, stews and soups are the way to go.
Frozen fruit includes
stewed apples, pears, plums, and apricots, blackberries, raspberries and gooseberries
I have got some supermarket frozen blueberries as I didn't have any bushes last year.
So I shouldn't be short of being able to put a dessert on the table after dinner.
Just by writing this down I'm quite embarrassed at the amount of stuff I have in the freezers that needs using up. I just hope this challenge is going to save me money as every spare penny this year is going towards a new driveway.
OUT:-freezer- 4 slices white bread for DH sandwiches, 2 portions of cooked venison plus some pastry to make a pie for dinner, frozen veg to go with the pie. Some berries for afters.
Fridge- cheese, butter, a couple of eggs and salad items, plain yogurt, milk.
Cupboard;- gravy powder, biscuits, tea. coffee.

You have a head start on me where fruit and veg are concerned. I have carrots and broccoli in the fridge looking past their best (which I will use if possible) and I have pineapple and orange juice.
Will test some of the veg with a few of the potatoes today, I hope they will be edible!

Nothing bought yet this month and I have quite a bit of fresh veg left including some of the more long life stuff like spuds, sweet potatoes and butternut squash and a fair bit in the freezer too.
Hubby's on cooking duty tonight so no idea what we'll get but I'm planning to use up some bendy cauli and a bag of spinach in some dal for tomorrow's lunch. I might even have a go at making chapatis as I have a massive bag of plain wholemeal flour that I need to do something with.0 -
I bought a pie, that's FOUR slices... ate a bit yesterday ... so need to eat it differently today... in the freezer are the Christmas roasties and the Xmas brussels.... so I should just sigh and eat those with it.
Not all of them of course... just 2 spoons of each one, but I'll know there are fewer of each. The brussels are nearly done as I've eaten bubble/sqk four times this year to try to get through them... but those roasties are languishing... I won't buy them again.0 -
Hi all
Used up the last of the spaghetti last night that was in the tub. Have replenished the tub with a pack from the understairs cupboard so none left there now. Plenty other pasta but not spaghetti
Also used up the parmesan cheese that was in the fridge but will get more today as we use that quite a lot.
Ins to freezer were Richmond Frozen Sausages and also 2 packs of ice lollies for the boys as they are a treat in the nice weather we are having.
Tonight we are planning a BBQ so I will take beef haches and some chicken fillets out the freezer for that. Will also make some savoury rice up to have cold and that will get rid of a packet from the cupboard.0 -

Decided I had to throw the old carrots away. I've bought some new carrots, a cucumber (didn't realise I still had half of one in the fridge which is still ok), and some rice milk. That came to £2.99, so no more grocery spends until Tuesday at the earliest.

Hubby made salad with fried halloumi last night and put the breadmaker on overnight so we had lovely fresh bread for breakfast.
For lunch today I made a curry for us all and used up half a wilty cauliflower, spinach leaves, chickpeas, carrots, half a red pepper, onion, ancient powdered coconut milk, rice and some hm naan which was hiding in the freezer. I had hoped to have enough to take for my lunch on Monday but it proved too popular with my menfolk and was demolished. I just have rice leftovers to do something with.
No spends so far but we're down to our last banana and my 4 year old eats one every day. I've got a few apples and some grapes though so I might hold off buying more fruit for another couple of days and brave his wrath! :-)0
