Is this a new generational thing with grandparents giving pocket money? I used to get to choose 2 for 1p chews (blackjacks and fruit salads) from my Nan's tin! DS gets pocket money from both sides - £2 a week from my Mum, the same from the other side but saved until we see them (usually quarterly due to distance) and then they add some more and he usually ends up with £50 a time! He does save though - £1k+ and counting, plus has a current account that he keeps roughly £100 in. He understands interest and likes watching it grow. :money: and he's caught on to family ramblings of cousin saving for house deposit, etc. He's done a few Nectar surveys that specifically ask for children in his age group too. :D The grass cutting was hard work as far as he was concerned :rotfl:

My son only gets pocket money from my side of the family but Mrs. K.'s parents do have 6 grandchildren so that would soon add up.
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500

MiT, DS is keen to work part-time and earn his own money, so I'll be supporting that. Paper round, part-time shop work - whatever he can get that's age appropriate. They take them at 15 here in some of the retail park shops providing they've got their NI card, so I must make sure we get one for him.

His NI card will arrive automatically - my DDs got theirs about 6 months before 16th birthday - well DD2 was a little longer as 'they' questioned her name......seriously! And its not whacky at all (unlike some of the mad frogs I have taught in my time!) Very mainstream and conventional spelling:rotfl:

That's good if they send them out in good time automatically - subject to names!

Quite a busy work day, but fitted in the Ald! food shop on the way home. Had a rough idea of what we needed, so first time without a list in a long time - but spent more I think because of that. A lesson learned there. Spent £21.02 - no sausages or YS items :rotfl: Need to meal plan. I need to take my own advice and do it the right way round too :o Batches of curry, chilli, spag bol and cottage pies all need doing too as we're almost out of those, but have the supplies.

    The financials:
    - bank account checked and £8.08 in interest added to account
    - freepostcodelottery (day) - checked
    - Nectar adpoints - next to do
    - Nectar Canvass - 80 pointer done
    - Nectar Search - off the blocks for June with 15/100
    - Nectar Card value - up to £64.99
    - Inbox Pounds - up at £13.37
    - Qmee - just 5p picked up there today so far

CC statement not yet available online - can't believe I am actually excited about it landing! :rotfl:

Taken a leaf out of MiT's diary and have made Opticians appointment - annual contact lens and sight checks are due in July, but I'm getting 'no pain migraines' and wobbly aura bits again (technical description :rotfl:), so booked in for 14th June. I pay £5 a month which covers both so nothing to pay on the day, but always come away with my prescriptions and order online.

Need to order contact lens solution before then though as on last bottle.

Eyebrow thread appointment booked for this Saturday - that will be £3. Hygienist this Thursday eve - that will be £42. Need to book boiler service at £60.

Need to print a sale receipt for the car for tomorrow evening as well - have found a template to use on Wh@t Car? website.

Heard about a possible office solution this morning - converted outbuilding up the road out of the village. Amazing location and dogs apparently are welcome too. Going to follow that one up later in the week.

Hope everyone's day is going ok. :)

Adpoints done - 51 banked, a 3 pointer was no longer available. That'll teach me not to check them on a Monday!

P!necone email in with the follow up survey to the product test, they've also sent the last £3 to Paypal. :D

All these little bits soon add up. Good :D

I think for glasses, shops like Specsavers and Boots are very good with their prices. I got a deal like that too with sunglasses, so would just need the lenses replacing (frames are fab still as I rarely wear glasses).

My optician is an independent and extortionately priced, hence I don't buy anything from there, but I see him every year and have done for the last 20 years and have had long term sight issues since a young child (astigmatism, long sighted blah blah), including laser treatment a couple of years ago (for onset of glaucoma/closing up of a water chamber) so have to have extra tests done. Just not sure I'd trust a chain and seeing different optometrists.

I'd better move to Scotland - free prescriptions and eye tests, that'd be very MSE :D

    Evening folks,

The deed has been done - I watched the sports car being driven off in all it's gleaming glory to it's new home. And a very good new home it now has - it's life of being garaged, being kept immaculate and being enjoyed will be continued. I am just so glad the rain dried up and the sun came out for the new owner. It's a handful of a car in the wet.

In exchange, I have rather alot of money to bank first thing tomorrow and am now debt neutral. :j:j I'll also save approx £600 per year on tax, insurance, MOT, servicing and fuel. I've phoned to cancel the insurance - with a hefty £47 cancellation charge, it looks like I'll get a refund of approx. £85. :)

I also have an empty garage and DS and I have been fighting over which cluttered area is going to get de-cluttered first at the weekend :rotfl: I will let him win as it involves sorting his bedroom and he is motivated like I've never seen him before :rotfl:

Just my part of the V5 to post off and the Insurance Certificate.

Bets in the family and amongst friends are now on as to how long I manage before giving in and getting another convertible  I'm going to need help keeping on the straight and narrow with this one, so feel free to pick me up on any mention of surfing the classifieds :D

Brilliant, glad it's all worked out this time. :). That's a fantastic saving. I have a trusty VW Golf which I ended up by default. Still owe £12k on it (have paid about £10k already). I do dream about the other cars I could have for that money however it's fantastic tax, insurance and brill on diesel. I say it's my forever car now (with a bit of luck) or it can be DDs depending on how it goes with the job change :rotfl:
