encourage kitten to sleep at night

please please please don't let him outside alone!!!!
we had a siamese for 14 years who did go outside and was fine, 6 months after he passed away we got another one (house was too quiet). We allowed him outside also (chipped of course) but approx 14 months after we got him, he disappeared......it took us 3 years to find him and bring him home! We were incredibly lucky to get him back and I never ever thought i would see him again (turns out he had actually been stolen but it is a long story). He is more than happy with being inside now, but we do have a harness and lead to let him out in the back garden0 -
I have no advise on how to get him to sleep unfortunately as 10 months on I still have the same problem.
Our 12 month old still tears around the house at night, our 2.5yo sleeps when we do (most of the time) but he never did that until Gizmo joined our family.
Gizmo’s favourite midnight game is dive bombing me off the top of the wardrobe, I suppose I should be thankful that it's him and not Salem and his 6kg of body weight. He also seeks attention from me by nipping me, at first I thought he was hungry but no he just wants me to be awake and to fuss him.... which is strange as he prefers DH and DD to me during daylight hours.
He knows he’s being a pain when he does it and knows he’ll get put in the kitchen. When I get up he runs downstairs making his chirpy mogwai noises and jumps up on the counter for a fuss before I close the door. I probably shouldn’t fuss him but he’s too darn cute not to. The occasional time DH gets up to put him downstairs he hides under the bed then comes out when DH is out of the room and looks at me as if to say come on then, no amount of treat shaking or calling by OH will get him downstairs unless I go too.
Even though we know he plays up when we go to bed I always find it hard to lock him in the kitchen until he’s being a little swine. There is the occasional time that the older one plays up too, he usually plucks the strings on the guitar we have in the bedroom much to DH annoyance.0 -
My OH cant help but give in to his cries and I'm always telling him off as I don't want Denzel to think that's good behaviour.0

If a consequence of having a pedigree cat is to keep them inside, give me a moggy any day. Surely a cat should be a cat, not just something for us to look at ?Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.0

He's not just something to look at well apart from when he's sleeping but even then he's cuddly. Denzel is lots of fun to play with.
I wouldn't want a cat that spent most of its time outside.0 -

Ok, I reckon we need to see photos of said cat, to see how much he looks like a herd of elephants!!Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

My last and present nut-job was a house cat for the first few years due to where I lived as was scared of the roads.
She is crackers, but probably due to being tortie, born ferral, re-homed at around 4 wks as mum dying/and being brought up by a dog and guinea-pig.......plus indoors(?). she never even asked to go out to be honest so don't worry, yours will be fine. She does go out now though and has done for years.
As for nightime madness....get used to it,it's part of cat owning. you will learn to love it when you have become a proper cat slave. When mine was a kitten I got one of those things you can hang from a door frame for entertainment, house mate wanted to string me up with it, but cat loved it.
My mad ball of fur is now 13ish......no different, still mad at night and will slowly rip a claw down my back or face to wake me up if I ignore her more than 5 times. Friends siamese howl at night and have 'chat-ins' on the landing.....have you just got the one?
Good luck....you will learn to love it honestly.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0
