Mirena coil thread

I've got a mirena, on my second one now and it's made a world of difference after the copper one I had before. I had my period almost constantly and was very uncomfortable, now I get occasional spotting, but rarely a proper period.0

I save a fortune on sanitary stuff now too! Lol!0

Good luck Roobee, I'm sure you'll be happy once it's done. The thought is usually worse than the actual process!0

Thanks firefly!
I'm hoping I'll be ok, my pain threshold is pretty good but I think it's the 'not knowing' that's making me nervous.
I was previously on the injections and the implant so I know LARC work for me. I also had no bleeding on either of them so here's hoping it'll be the same0 -
I miss my Mirena, the implant just doesn't feel quite right

Hi HBS,
I know what you mean - I had the implant for 2 years, it was ok but I never felt quite right on it. The pill has been even worse!
If you don't mind me asking, what is 'LLETZ' and why does it stop people from having mirena?0 -
I went to have mine removed to be told I was one year early, so I kept it. I have to say I am so scared of removal can anyone put my mind at rest please?0

I've had two removed. Both times there was a short cramp like pain lasting about 2 seconds when it came out, then nothing. You will be fine.0

I had mine fitted in 2010 (age 21) after years of heavy, painful periods. My GP booked me an appointment with my local Sexual health clinic and the Dr there was really good. Talked me through all my options and I decided to go for the mirena. Hardly have a period now, and when I do it's light and lasts only a few days. I sometimes get a a migrane/bloating/cramp just before but I can deal with that. My periods are so much better now!
Due to have mine removed next year, will probably have another one fitted, although I'm dreading it! When I had it done it was slightly painful and I bled/had awful cramps for a couple of days, then I was fine. It was a lot better than I expected. The problem is the threads have curled up (they do sometimes) so they're probably going to have to operate to remove it!As long as you have the treads, they just gently pull them to remove (so the Dr assured me!)

Another positive report
Pre-Mirena: I had erratic periods for years - would go two or three months without then light spotting, longest without about 12 months. Then made mistake of taking the pill and never managed to settle on a brand - headaches, heavy periods etc. Even off the pill, still didn't settle down with an epic heavy period lasting 6 weeks which was just awful. At that point I was literally begging to find a way to stop it. I was fortunately able to have one eventually fitted under general as other procedure carried out at the same time (and due to replace soon)0
