Mirena coil thread

My thread's been closed?! Thank you for all the replies I did get, it seems most get some benefit from it, although it might have been nice to get a few more replied without it being closed. I wanted to get an idea of how many people found it beneficial vs those that didn't.

Thank you to those who did reply.

your original thread is still there :)

eta - sorry, thought you meant it had been removed...not sure why they close threads, I know they often remove if they break rules on asking for medical advice

I don't think it was asking for medical advice, just experiences!

Mirena was amazing for me- my heavy painful periods stopped and became little more than spotting.

Only downside is for the first few weeks after it was fitted I got a fair bit of cramping as my body got used to the intruder.

This is the third one I've had an because of my age I can leave this one in for 10 years to see me through the menopause.

When it was first fitted i bled continuously for 7 weeks and had made an appt with my gp to get it removed when it stopped and it has been fine ever since.

Its the best thing i've done and works a treat.

I'm aware it doesn't work for everyone but my experience has been a positive one.

I can't seem to find the original thread, would have been useful as I had my first mirena fitted a week ago. I took painkillers and they used anesthetic gel but it still really hurt whilst being put in, although didn't take too long thankfully.
I'm sure I can feel it and have had cramping/pinching on and off since then, will give it until my checkup in a few weeks and hopefully it will improve, don't think i'd have another though!

I've had the mirena coil for many years and it has been fantastic, I chose it as an option to try before womb ablation or hysterectomy. It hurt when I had it put in and afterwards I went to the loo and had a little cry 'cos I felt sorry for myself and hadn't expected it to hurt. However before that I used to literally be on my knees with period pains so in comparison it wasn't that painful. For weeks I kept thinking I could feel it or it was dislodging, I did have the strings cut really short as they did give me (and my husband) some discomfort.

However I have no periods, no pain, the odd spotting so it was a life changer for me. Have two friends who had it removed after a few weeks as it didn't agree with them. They do tell you it can take a little while to settle.

Next Feb will be 5 yrs since I had my first one put in and I will be having another one straight away. the first few months were a bit erratic .

My dd has the depo injection which has completely stopped her periods so maybe that's another option op.
