    You `sound like an idiot.

it's quite simple. the people who are against it are going over the top with their excuses. Which makes it sound like they don't drive, so i suspect you're lying

The only people "making excuses" are the ones who are breaking the law. You may well think that anyone who breaks the law is "going over the top" if they try and excuse themselves.

Your post is pretty lame and childish, to be honest. Calling someone a liar because what they say does not fit in with your rather fanciful theory is the thing that is going to make you look like an idiot.

It may be a law but it's a law that is rarely (if ever) enforced.

Maybe when you see cars parked on the pavement you should start phoning the police and see what happens.

    I would suspect nothing.

If someone is willing to damage cars and not own - then they are a pig ignorant git. It is reckless to not take any reasonable step to avoid damaging property. In some cases it cannot be avoided, in others it propably can.

By the way - a few scratches on the side of the caused by a pedestrian will cause less damage than a few scratches caused by a car if the car was parked further out on the road, so its not actually going to discourage anyone from parking on the pavement.

Lucky I don't damage anything then.
Although to be fair, I think anyone who does damage an ignorantly parked car accidentally shouldn't have to go to the effort of finding the driver, especially as the driver put himself in that position by parking illegally.
Can you imagine the police report
"I parked illegally and someone accidentally damaged my car when legally using the FOOTpath."
"So you were acting illegally and wish to complain about an accident that happened due to your actions and wouldn't have occurred had you been abiding by the law?"
    "Yes officer"
    "Sod off, mate"

Wonder if your insurance would cover it too...

Also, the choice isn't just between blocking a road and potentially being rammed by other traffic or blocking a footpath and potentially being damaged by pedestrians, there's this third choice, and it's a bit "out there", but you could actually move you car somewhere suitable, where you neither have to obstruct the road nor the footpath, and not be such a lazy git!

Regardless it is STILL AGAINST THE LAW.

our council parking enforcement officers do give tickets to any vehicles parked on pavements

Not sure what you are trying to say here. You seem to be suggesting that if the police don't have time to enforce a law that makes it acceptable for people to break it.

Surely that cannot be what you think.

No I am saying the police don't take it as a serious breach of a law. If the people who enforce laws don't think it's worth enforcing then I don't see why anyone should obey that law.

Well said, MM. A lot of the time that cars are parked on the pavement there is a perfectly good parking spot within 50 feet.

    No they don't.

Maybe I'm the city centre but not on a residential street.

Really! If something is against the law you shouldn't do it, whether you will be caught and punished shouldn't be the reason you don't do it.

It's like people who think it's fine to park on double yellow lines when the parking wardens are on strike or not pay at council car-parks.

    Oh, yes, they do!

If people complain they will be sent out and tickets will be issued.

Maybe you're the city centre or maybe you're just plain fruit loops!
