How to fall in love with saving money

I have been a member of Quidco for some time but am usually not organised enough to use them (stupidly I realise). Don't know if Topcashback is similar? ... Anyway, note to self, must start using one or the other of them as a matter of course.0

As soon as you need to spend any money straight away think cashback. When I first started money saving and spotted a deal on the all the money saving sites I got so excited and forgot about the cashback sites until after I had completed my transaction. At the moment on topcashback you can convert your cash into tesco points X 4 which is great value for me. This money saving lark is quite time consuming but very addictive to me! I just had to get ripped off even for a penny(lol). There is always something new to learn as well to make you more savvy to stash away for your goal.0 -

Yes, that's one of the factors that makes it difficult for me, or has made it easier in the past not to make it such a priority, that it does take time and focus. But I need to apply my mind to it now and not get distracted.0 -
That is really interesting, Lomcevak - I will look into it. I have the feeling it costs quite a bit per month, doesn't it, or is it an upfront cost? Anyway, I'll find out. It sounds as though it could be very useful.
It's a one-time payment, $60 when I got it (so about £40 depending on the exchange rate, it's a US company but it supports pounds without problem. Occasionally goes on sale, but not sure how often. Then there are updates every couple of years, I started on YNAB 3 and it is now YNAB 4, upgrades aren't free but I think they are cheaper than full price. Can't remember what my upgrade cost was, but the software doesn't expire and there is no real need to upgrade - the core concepts are the same.
Best approach is to download the trial, read the (free) e-book that covers the concepts and philosophy, and give it a go. You don't need to restart if you do like it, can just pay and the trial turns in to the full version.
No connection to the company, BTW, just found the software to be very useful.0 -
Hi All
Saved £24 this week. Not loads, but all i could manage.
New total in signature
Also due petrol money next week, £54
Had a radical rethink about Christmas- basically not going to spend much at all (for a more detailed version see my diary).
I start my new client next week too, so that'll be an extra £30 every other week. Again, that'll go straight into savings.0 -

Thanks Lomcevak - a one-time payment sounds reasonable - there are budget sites that charge monthly, shurely not the thing? ...I'll look into it.

Thanks CathyIt feels painfully slow at times, but i am really inspired by another thread. I cant remember the title but i think it's something like 'Savings Diary of a 26 year old on a Low Income' or something similar
Check it out if you like, it's a very good read.
