It's Sunday that's effected the most, got some washing done and kitchen tidied up a bit since I'm feeling fresh. Quick trip to shop for some new work tools then clean my van and chill out the rest of the day! Another busy week ahead at work, meant to be getting a day off due to weather if forecasts are anything to go by. Still holding off buying a new laptop.........for now!

Sounds like a pretty productive Sunday to me :T:T:T:)

It shows how long it's been since I had a night out as I've never had the pleasure of seeing a man wearing a mankini.:(

I have found a mysterious credit for £68 that came into the account in early November. I have absolutely no idea what this was for or who was returning money to me. I'll investigate, but for now it can go into the savings pot.

The more I have been thinking about the (pretty modest) investments I had back in Australia before I left, the more I think that I might be able to fall in love with saving for the sake of having (a few) stocks and shares again and seeing them grow **. I can't remember how I got the cash together to buy them. Don't think it was any kind of disciplined savings effort, which is something I've never really managed, but I must have done it somehow. Anyway, I did well out of them and they funded what was meant to be two years of travel round the world (I ended up here rather than going back to Oz, but that's another story).

** assuming they do grow :)

There are schemes that let you put as little as £50 a month into a Stocks & Shares ISA. There are several threads and many opinions about investing through S&S ISA and low cost stockbrokers / funds supermarkets on here. As always, be aware of the risks.

Thanks, Eco Miser. In fact this thread fell pretty quiet after I mentioned stocks and shares and I wondered if I'd put people off :rotfl: I might be sending out confusing messages, on the one hand starting up a thread saying I'm crap at saving money and on the other talking about what are usually quite major investments. I am crap at saving money, honest :)

I think the drip-feeding idea is a good one. Though I was reading some advice column in a financial publication yesterday and the advice from three financial experts went as follows: "don't buy individual stocks and shares, buy funds"; "don't buy funds, go the passive investing route"; "don't go the passive investment route, buy individual stocks and shares" :rotfl:

YoungBusinessman, wot do you do, if you don't mind my asking? Don't say if you don't want to. ... It's a lovely clear day here today. You're right about the staying in bed bit being the preferable option tho. :)

I find the only downside with becoming a religious saver is that I occasionally wish time away until payday so that my savings go up. Tricky to get a balance with these things. If you don't have the right attitude with it, it can have a lot of similarities to the feeling of paying off debt.

    :-)

Agreed quantic - I'm doing that very thing already, despite only have started officially saving in October :) It's useful to feel you're doing "something every day", even if I'm only posting on this thread. It gives a sense of progress, even if I haven't really made any. :)
