Sitting here eating my sundried tomato and parmesan bread fresh out of the breadmaking machine. The loaf cost about 40p. It is delicious. Just goes to show, money saving doesn't have to equal deprivation.0

Started new savings account with Santander it comes with a card aswel. 3% will do me for now. Got £730 ish in there away to add £300 just to get me over the £1,000 mark. Going to use it through next year for my savings, aim is £15,000 again. With £2,000 ish this year I'm hoping that means il end 2014 with £17,000 in there but we shall see how it goes! That's my only goal for 2014 iv got so far, need to have a think and jot some down! Had 8 goals this year stuck to them all except my £15k savings which is set to be complete next payday which is Friday.
Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend, being bad....away out for tea tonight!:eek:Living frugally at 24

I should start thinking about goals for next year too ... £17,000, fantastic :T:T
Have fun out tonight, YoungBusinessman0 -
I love the idea of making a few plans for next year. The first one that i can think of is to have filled up my ISA. Other ones are things like moving house (it'd be nice to get some sleep at weekends..noisy neighbours!), getting a new car etc..but these are all things i am saving for now anyway.
I had a mini splurge today, bought myself a new winter coat and some nice boots. Cost £70 but paid £61 after codes etc. Last year was horrid as i was paying debts off and didnt have any waterproof boots or a decent coat and was wet and miserable..this winter i'll be snug as a bug in a rug!
I paid via Paypal which has this new 'Pay after delivery' process, so it can take up to 14 (or is it 20??) days to be taken from your account! I must remember to transfer this amount over to my e-saver in preperation for it being debited.
Hope you have a nice evening out tonight, YBMWe are having a nice relaxing one

eeerrrm.....are you talking about the Santander 123? Because that's the only Santander account paying 3% provided that you have at least £3K in there (plus some other conditions). You'll get noting below £1K, and a mere 1% on £1,000 to £1,999. And it costs £2 a month, but you can get cashback on DDs etc etc, as has been discussed on here a lot. Good account if you have £3K and can meet the conditions but not the best if you don't and can't.0 -

Sounds like the coat and boots was a sensible purchase. It's not as though the winter in the UK is short
Re going out, I was out tonight as well but it's increasingly rare ... I'm basically turning into a complete curmudgeon and prefer nights at home by myself. Which is good, because they're cheap. :rotfl:0 -

Careful now! You'll end up sad, lonely and rich (well kind of) just the same as me!
Seriously though, back in 2006, I found myself in a bit of a bother with my finances. £14,000 in debt in fact due to needless credit card splurges. Buying a brand new car during this phase didn't exactly help either.
The wake up call came in August 2006 when I found myself reduced to being able to only service the interest payments on the card. Realised that I needed to do something rather drastic so I really reined in the spending big time. Was lucky and landed a job where I could start paying back a small chunk of the capital and still keep the car on the road. But the remedy involved cutting back to the bare bone to the point where I was even walking to work (so much for the joys of motoring!) and cutting back big time on my food intake during working hours.
By the end of 2010 I was finally debt free. Having achieved this, I then decided that instead of using my hard earned to pay down debt I could then save a bit for a rainy day. As a result of learning the hard way, I found that it wasn't all that difficult to fall in love with saving. So much so that I now have a few grand tucked away just waiting to be invested into things that will give me a chance of getting a better return long term.
BTW I still have the same car (runs as sweet as a nut she does). Even if I still prefer to walk into town rather than drive! Well for the most part I still only window shop!0 -

Call what you spent on winter wear an investment not an expense! If the coat and boots are of decent quality, you might get more than one winter out of them. Getting good discount on them is a great additional bonus!
I'm still wearing stuff bought on my credit card from the days when I was a naughty boy living way above my means! Bought clothes back then because I really wanted them. These days its all about how much I really need them.0
