Also, I mentioned on WTBSE's thread that husband for paid £110 for his overtime this weekend so put that in the piggy then we had some unexpected spends this weekend which meant I had to transfer £50 out of the savings. It'll be going back in when husband gets paid on Tuesday but I was a bit annoyed at first.

The total has still gone up though- £1420. Remaining positive!

Yes, it is incredibly disheartening to have to take any money out of savings, even if you know it will go up again straight away. It happens though :) I guess it's the point of having savings but it's a nice feeling to see the total go up and up (I must be a convert to the idea because it feels as though I always thought this way, ha ha) so to see it go down in any way feels like a blow. £1420 though, I like the look of that number :) :T:T:T

Sounds like a very good day indeed ... a voucher with no expiry date, that's a useful thing to have. :) I might have an early night too actually, as I still have a bit of a flu bug and want to get a good night's sleep.

I will keep people up-to-date on how I go, in fact that will probably make me try harder. :)

Sorry you're feeling under the weather. Hope an early night cures it for you!

What grocery threads do you follow? I'm not really active in any other areas of MSE so any suggestions/ recommendations would be welcome.

I really need to get back to tracking my grocery spends! Went a bit off the rails with it recently :(

ah well my early night has turned out not so early. :) JoJoC, I don't really follow any of the grocery threads, though I subscribe to one of the frugal living threads. :) I've had a poke round on the grocery forum though, very useful. Will say more tomorrow since I'm very tired. Bonne nuit, all. :)

Thanks JIL. I'll have to have a look at that one. The food and groceries forum has upwards of 12,000 threads and that's not the only forum where you can find info in a general way on these things so it can get rather overwhelming sometimes.

I had a long sleep and am feeling a bit better this morning. Am on mild meds that make me feel rather woozy though. Gosh, it's the most beautiful day out there again. I hope the whole spring will be like this (ha ha, no one should ever say that sort of thing in the UK). :)

    Hi,
You can keep the written log of money that you have spent. By following that log every month you can manage to save your money.:)

I agree with JIL, the monthly Grocery Challenge has been really helpful for me.
I don't join in with the chatter much (I used to), but the recipe index is amazing! I often refer to it when I am trying to use up stuff from my cupboards.

Glad to see that you are feeling a bit better today Cathy :)

Have started reading through the Grocery Challenge and it does seem amazing - WantToBeSE, you're right about the recipe list! Thanks again for the pointer, JIL.

I've updated my signature to reflect the groceries I bought last week ... meanwhile, re my £10 a week challenge, I've kicked that off with £1.89 spent on sushi to eat for dinner:rotfl:Maybe not the best of starts but there it is - it was half price at least. So, now I have £28.11 till payday. :) Yay!!

PS, I know the sushi wasn't very MSE, so I feel I should explain, I really am feeling pretty ill - I barely made it through work yesterday because I was so tired. So wasn't up to preparing anything. I had some cheese oatcakes to go with it.

Right, I am off to bed now to get a good nights' sleep (hopefully). Good night all!

Thanks for the tread link JIL! I've seen that one before but it looks so mammoth- I'd need to dedicate some proper time to reading that! The host of recipes looks great though.

You don't need to explain to us about your sushi Cathy! As long as you enjoyed it, that's all that matters. And it was half price!

Sneaky wee savings total check: £1500! Oh yes! So pleased :) keep the momentum going :)

I'm off to bed too, got a big day in work tomorrow and need my brain to function. Hope you all had a lovely evening!
