To be honest, most people have better things to do with their time than going to several shops (which I'll add costs money itself).

And this is exactly the sort of attitude that gets loads of people into debt!

Better things to do with my time? Sure, if I could afford it. But I'm trying to become debt-free so I MAKE the time to spend wisely.

I'm sure many people have better things to do than 70 or 80 hours O/T a month as well but, again, I'm trying to pay off my debts.

I'm sure people also have "better things to do" than making their own meals at home instead of buying ready meals too. There's loads of threads where people post about money-saving activities that take a little time out of their day. Are you going into these threads and telling them that most people have better things to do with their time? That's really helpful, well done.

Incidentally, it takes me about 15 minutes each 2 weeks to check MySupermarket. Which saves me loads of money. Waste of time??

And, as it isn't 1982 anymore, like most people I live nearby to nearly every major supermarket (furthest away is Aldi which is a just under 10 minute drive). All together, "Savvy" shopping takes me about 30 mins longer than when I used to blindly buy everything I needed in Tesco. And I probably spend about an extra 2 or 3 quid on petrol (which I save many times over just by shopping in Aldi).

So, I reckon I spend an extra hour, tops, savvy shopping every 2 weeks or so. About the same time it takes to watch an episode of Coronation Street and Eastenders. Which I don't do as I barely watch TV as I have better things to do with my time.

That's an unfair comment - this isn't one of those threads. (I thought you didn't want to be argumentative).

The offer from Tesco is aimed at their regulars, and for me it means I'll be getting an extra £60 towards my Christmas shopping which I wouldn't otherwise have been getting - even though my overall spend with them would have been the same anyway at this time of year. I won't be buying blindly, or spending on loads of things I don't really need either.

No-one's obligated to take them up on the offer.

Look, this thread is about a deal for regular customers. Not everybody has a desire (or need) to shop around,I'd personally rather stick pins in my eyes but that's neither here nor there. What this thread isn't for is telling people the deal is stupid because people should shop around.

I'll also add that I doubt many people are in debt due to not shopping around, especially when it comes to food shopping!

Well I wasn't being argumentative until someone commented that people have "better things to do with their time" than put in a tiny bit of effort in order to save money.

Regardless of which thread or board I'm posting on, it's still MSE, not ilovesainsburys.com and I would say that saying "most" people reading these forums have better things to do and so should just blindly shop in one supermarket is, in my opinion, incorrect, irresponsible and completely counter-productive to getting out of debt or saving money.

Unless you're disabled or don't have transport, I don't agree with nor understand becoming a "regular" at any supermarket (except maybe Aldi or Lidl) but that's your business, not mine and I'm sure you have your reasons (I just hope it's not the ridiculous scam that is the Clubcard).

If you're going to spend all that money there anyway and will benefit from the vouchers, then that's great.

I was just pointing out that you can save more by shopping around, it's not as great a deal as it first looks and, in general, it does encourage people to spend more than they need. They do it for their benefit and profits, not because they love you and want to give you something back.

Anyways, no I don't want to get into a needless argument and you are all obviously free to do as you like and I wish you all well.

Sorry but I completely disagree. It's easy to pinpoint any one thing and say "well that won't get you into debt". Debt is often spending on a combination of things. If you can reduce even one of those things down, you're at least on the right track. The idea is to try to spend less on as much as possible in order to get out of debt or increase saving as quickly as possible.

My partner and I worked out we have saved about 2k over the past 18 months or so, just by reducing our grocery shop. Because of this, that 2k has helped pay off our debts. We could actually become debt-free just by doing this if we weren't bothered about how long it took (obviously we're doing loads of other things). Conversely, we could be getting 2k INTO debt if we were at zero and weren't doing what we're doing now.

So I totally disagree with that comment. I assume you're already debt-free. If so, congratulations! Anyways, I'm (finally) off now. Best wishes.

Its a shame that people cant start a thread without getting certain people bickering and going totally off topic which spoils the easy reading of the thread for everybody that is interested in the OP's main point.

    Thanks for posting OP.

I regularly shop online at Tesco and my OH very rarely shops at Tesco.

I havent received a letter and OH hasnt received a letter but he did receive an email with a spend £40 for the next 3 weeks and then get £20 off on the 4th week.

The other thing to bare in mind, is that Tesco are currently running one of their spend £40, get a £5.00 off (next week's £40 shop).
So if for example your target spend is £80.00, you could do two £40.00 shops this week, which gives you two £5.00 coupons to use next week.
Whether the promotion will run next week, only time will tell!
I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard
