From what I can tell it's regarded to be pretty good to drive, though most of the reviews barely touch on that. And tax/fuel economy aren't that big a deal for most people unless doing huge mileage; I genuinely don't understand why everyone these days is so fixated on mpg rather than total cost of ownership.

If you are buying one brand new from an MG Motors dealer then total cost of ownership is gonna be high once you take depreciation into account. I've seen 11 plates for £6k for sale before, there's not enough demand to keep the prices high.

With 61 plate MG6s on autotrader for £6500, it seems someone has taken a real kicking on depreciation just to pretend to be Jason Plato, then finds themselves driving a car that was on MG Rovers drawing boards 10 years ago. Will be great bargains in a couple of years time when they're around the £2k mark.

There's one direct from MG that's not even 2 years old at £6895

As Colino said, gonna be a bargain soon and I would think popular with modders with that turbo on it.

Back when I was at school I was told by the local tycoon that the only way to get rich was to avoid spending money. Since cars are a waste of money (he said), he never spent more than 1% of his wealth on a car. It worked for him.

Some of them have taken quite a deprecation hit, but I'm not convinced it's that much worse than most other cars (I can see '10' reg Mondeos for £5k and an '11' reg Mondeo for £6783). Assuming that's a base spec hatch, it's lost £10k in 2 years, which you could easily lose on more expensive cars. That's just what happens when you buy new.

And at 2/3 years old they will give you a lot of car for your money, which is where I'm normally looking.

For a fair comparison I'd be looking at Zetec spec with an engine of similar power, 1.6 turbo maybe rather than a base model 1.6.

As I said earlier, used are a bargain IF the depreciation is starting to slow. Too early to tell at moment as they are struggling to sell them.

Maybe the diesel will turn things around.
