I'd echo what others have said. Look at a new car from brokers as an option. I've just bought via drivethedeal with delivery from Kent as part of it. There are others. Ask them for prices as well as I did. You only deal with the fleet car rep at the main dealer to arrange options, dates etc. I looked at the used price of my Sharan across all second hands from Auto Trader and there wasn't a lot of difference. If anything it was still in my favour to buy new.

Buying new is the silliest thing. You can buy something with 5-10k on the clock and it will be considerably less expensive than buying the same brand spanking.

If you want economy and there's only two of you, get a Smart Fortwo Coupe Diesel, you'll spend about seven quid a week or something silly on fuel. Think Renault and Honda are doing some really high MPG hatchs too for miles under £10k nearly new.

Sorry but i think you have missed the point of buying using DtD or similar.

A Focus priced at say £17k new can be bought for around the £11-12k mark.

A used ex demo at a Ford dealer would likely be around £13-14k

A one year old likely ex rental car would probably be around the £10-11k mark but have a years less warranty and had up to 1000 different drivers.

MoneySaving isn't always done by buying used.

Otherwise big fleets would buy used.

The brokers simply gain you access to the fleet discounts avaiable when you buy in bulk.

On some vehicle such as Kia and Hyundai the fleet discounts arr much less than my Ford example snd in that case your approach would certainly be on the table.

In this instance i would put new before used.

The more expensive the vehicle the better the discounts.

As an example i hsve seen up to £20k discount on large execs like Jag XJ or Audi A8.

What a absurd thing to say! How much the OP spends on fuel will rather depend how far they drive...

If the OP doesn't post back with some more info this thread is rather a waste of everyone's time.

I reckon they have gone to buy one of those MG's!

I was saying it tongue in cheek, just saying how cheap they are on fuel. Don't let that stop you seeking an opportunity to butt in and put everyone right though.

Not really sure how I can be accused of butting in to a conversation I was involved with before you, but either way, talk sense and I wont ;).

Do you put people right when they also say 'it's been to the moon and back'?

I THINK YOU'LL FIND IT ACTUALLY HASN'T, HOW ABSURD OF YOU!!11

OK, what you originally said would have been taken seroiusly by some people, trust me. You might also have meant it seriously for all I knew.

Also, talking about mpg is generally useful, whilst comments about fuel spend or miles per tank are always unhelpful.

Not sure why you're getting so wound up about this though, my original reply to you wasn't meant as any sort of personal attack!

Any evidence of that? Broadspeed.com are showing the cheapest being £12471 for a poverty spec Edge with no metallic paint.

A Zetec - probably the minimum spec you'd want is £13350 + £525 for metallic paint.

Really? Then you'd be being robbed. Heres a 2013 Ecoboost Zetec with black metallic paint, with just 1900 miles on it for £11989 or a saving of almost £2,000 (before any further discount you can leverage)

    Really?

    Heres one for under £10K

So thats £5000 saved over the cheapest new price.

No, but likewise its not done by posting inaccurate generalities.
    bigjl wrote: »

They buy new for many reasons - usually because they can leverage massive discounts from the manufacturer and it part of their business model to rent or supply new cars.

    Not strictly true.

Kia and Hyundai discount less than Ford.
    bigjl wrote: »

Not necessarily. Try getting a discount on a Porsche or a ferrari.

Usually only on run out models or on hard to shift cars.
