Best car for under £10K

Sorry but i think you have missed the point of buying using DtD or similar.
And i think you've missed the point - the O/P's budget is £10K. They ARENT getting a new focus for £10K.
Therefore "the point" - that you seem to have missed is, they can drive a nearly focus for £10K by not going way over budget just to buy new.0 -

If you can get X car for £14k brand new, i guarantee you can get X car with a few thousand on the clock (which is brand new in all but marketable name) for a few £k less. Saving money for the same thing.0 -

There are some rare exceptions to that, but it would be wrong to say that you can always buy new cheaper than an ex demo.
One caveat to that would be if you get into the realms of finance, as often there are manufacturer backed finance deals on new cars with contributions by the manufacturer that you couldnt otherwise get.0 -
If you want something safe, decently equipped, and bang-on for the money, have a look at the Suzuki swift. A manual 3-door 'SZ3' with alloys and air-con is currently officially £10,099. I'm sure that you could get them to drop the £99! And that is brand-new, so a full three-year warranty, one year breakdown cover and that lovely new car smell.
I say this because I own an automatic version of the same car. Same engine, apart from the auto box that I like, but the manual is quicker and the gearbox I test drove was very good. Even with the auto box it is fast enough, and is great fun to drive, and I have owned much, much faster cars. Mine is the higher end SZ4, with toys like keyless go and bluetooth, but the SZ3 has all the same safety kit (even has a drivers knee airbag), stability control, the same very good stereo, handling etc.
I'd also say that buying a new or nearly new car within your budget range is a good idea. Not only do you get the warranty and hopefully a longer useful life, but you will then be paying servicing, tax, fuel, insurance etc on a £10k car. Even if someone gave you a £50k sports car, I bet all those extra costs would more than eat up the extra £10k in a few years.

Thanks for spending ages pedandictly disecting my post in detail Motorguy.
I haven't read yours though other than a quick scan.
But you can get a Focus 5 dr for £12036 on Broadspeed.
If you think it is better value to buy ex demo then please find an example of this for us to have a look at.
But unless this ex demo car is significsntly cheaper than that i would chose new every time, as demo cars are also the company cars of the sales staff in all cases thst i have seen.
Though perhaps it is better value to spend £8-9k on a two year old Focus with less than 20 or 30k on the clock.
But personally you need to consider more than just the price when assessing if it is a good deal.
Do you have any examples of fleets buying used?
I suspect that they have done their sums as far as value for money goes.
I would expect a delivery mileage Focus perhaps pre registered to undercut the Broadspeed, Drive the Deal or Happy New Car price by at least 20% other wise it isn't good value.0 -

It wasnt that i was being pedantic. It was just that your entire post was so wholly wrong, i thought i'd take 5 minutes to correct it.

I suggest you read it thoroughly.

You mean the old 1.6 variant in poverty spec Edge trim that nobody buys?
If you think it is better value to buy ex demo then please find an example of this for us to have a look at.
I already did - but i've added it again. Take your poverty spec 1.6 Edge and add metallic paint and its £12550.
Heres the optimum spec Zetec trim model with the new 1.0T litre ecoboost engine that everyones raving about, for £11989 - compared to broadspeeds price of £2000 more, spec for spec.

You would genuinely have to be a fool to go for the 1.6 poverty spec Edge over that, and with just 1900 miles and being an ex demo from a Ford dealer, its clearly better value.
But unless this ex demo car is significantly cheaper than that i would chose new every time, as demo cars are also the company cars of the sales staff in all cases thst i have seen.
Clearly if the prices were the same, yes, new every time, but you havent shown us an example of where they are?
But personally you need to consider more than just the price when assessing if it is a good deal.
Exactly, hence why the new 1.6 Edge example you cited is such a bad idea.
Do you have any examples of fleets buying used?
No. And i dont need to. Avis and their ilk like to have brand new cars that they can negotiate directly with the manufacturer on and sell before they even need a service.
They'll bulk buy 1000 at a time and dispose of them 1000 at a time.
Can you imagine the chaos for them if they were to try to buy up pockets of good used cars, then worry about servicing, MOT, etc, etc?
Clearly it wouldnt make sense.
I suspect that they have done their sums as far as value for money goes.
Uh huh. And if we were getting the maybe 40% discount off list that they get, then yes, we'd all buy new.
I would expect a delivery mileage Focus perhaps pre registered to undercut the Broadspeed, Drive the Deal or Happy New Car price by at least 20% other wise it isn't good value.
Well the example i cited isnt far off that. A new Focus 1.0T Ecoboost Zetec is £13,359 + metallic paint = £13,884.
The car i showed was £11989, so thats roughly 15% saving, and a not-to-be-sniffed-at £2000 you have in your pocket.
PLUS the car i showed i would say you'd get an easy £500 off if you went to buy today, so thats taking you to near 20% off.0 -
Hi, you may have to go slightly over the 2 year age limit but I would suggest something like a Ford Focus 1.6TDCi or SEAT Leon 1.6TDi. Both great cars without a 'prestige' badge and therefore no premium retail price. They also fall into the lower tax bands.
If however you are not doing a lot of mileage maybe a petrol option? All things being equal you will get a newer petrol model than a diesel model for the same money.
Rough guide if you are doing under 12000 miles pa go for petrol, if you are doing over 15000 miles pa go for diesel. Anything inbetween either model will be fine.0 -

Buy Chinese goods and support the British car industry.

As long as all the foam and plastic packaging they dispose of to make sending my items cheaper are not the same materials they are making the cars from.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Going by reviews it seems the MG6 interior is made from all the leftover plastic toys that Kellogg's no longer put in our cereal boxes.0
