Member of staff allowed to shout racial abuse in the office...

The OP can not pursue it as they do not work there. You don't have to experience something yourself to feel/know it's wrong and want to pursue it. Nor does it make the person who might benefit !!!!!!/weak/a child for not pursuing it themself. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
No it is not. You (as a manager) can't allow someone to shout out racial abuse because they are related to you.
Your suggestion of nepotism was to do with the employment of a person, not their behaviour.
You don't appear to have answered my earlier post (#4 in case you missed it)0 -
I will assist my partner to pursue it which is very normal behaviour for someone you care about.
Also, the nature of their work, makes it even more wrong; so depending on the outcome of this meeting I would advise her to look into reporting the goings on.
Unless people here think this is acceptable and should be tolerated.0 -
However, yesterday after passing on a phone call from a Polish woman, this woman shouts to another member of staff about "f**king stupid Eastern Europeans, and Chinese are this ***,
Correct me if im wrong, but this isn't racist.
Race refers to a person's physical appearance, such as skin color, eye color, hair colour, bone/jaw structure etc.
Ethnicity, on the other hand, relates to cultural factors such as nationality, culture, ancestry, language and beliefs.0 -
Or if they are not, so nepotism is not the issue.
The issue is that although only a week went past, this member of staff obviously was not warned or did not care so that she does it again.
You can say that she jumped to conclusions, of course but she felt it was because of the relationship of the person and the manager.0 -

You are clutching at straws here. Why would you do that?
You can't say f***ing people from this country are idiots/stupid etc.
If you do then it is racist. In any everyday context.0 -

The "racist card" gets thrown around far to often.
If anything, the comments are xenophobic, but certainly not racist.0 -

This is not the Roy Hodgson story, this is starting a job and being in an office where one member of staff continues to shout around about races (Chinese etc.) and people from certain countries being idiots, stupid, that they can f**k off.
What is more is that you yourself are from a country/region which a couple of times is stated as having idiots and stupid people.
The company does not remove of quieten this staff member therefore they need to be taken to task on it.0
