  • My kitten thought it was called 'Oi' for several months, because it's what I used to say to distract it from from clawing clothes and climbing curtains...
“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”

  • Was fortunate to grow up with lots of horses. Had one ( of many) called Maia.
25yrs later was expecting a girl ... So they told me at 12wks pregnant, & opted for Maia. The whole family, including my 3yr old, started talking to Bump as "Maia".
My hubby wanted a plain name for her middle name in case she hated it. But 11yrs later, Maia loves her name, even if she is sometimes Maiai (Swahili for egg!!) or Miai, or even Mia, or even incredibly, a letter home from school as Gaia!
    go for it!!
  • My friend named her daughter Carley after her horse Karley, and still has both of them 5 years later.
I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be

    George ... don't do that.

  • Noooooooooooooo. It won't work.

Find another name for your new born son and let the cat keep his name that he's used to.

There are millions of names out there.

Hope all goes well - good luck :)

Names that may go with Henry (must be 2 syllables and not in top 10)...

    Morris
Samuel (think this is 3 syllables though)
    Larry
    Peter
    Barry
    Warren
    Boris
    Oscar
    Carson

I was half thinking of naming my son a name that was a version of the cat's name, everyone said this was a bad idea. It didn't really go with our surname anyhow so was rejected.

I did call one of my rabbits a name that I quite fancied for my first child, but people said it was too fancy, thought the rabbit wouldn't be mortifed by an over-fancy name.

I missed out some pages in the middle, but I did see that the OP had decided against it - thank goodness. I think there may be a few Georges in his year at school, and wouldn't name a child the same as a pet. I even felt uncomfortable calling our cat the same name as one of the girls in DD's class:rotfl:

My son's name is Ben, not Benjamin or Benedict, and it says Ben on his birth certificate.

DS is Alex, not Alexander. Alex is what's on his birth certificate and it was what DH insisted on and what I reluctantly agreed to, not Alexander.

Truth be told, I think short forms of names tend to be used when people get older rather than when they're younger. For instance, DD's got a "Christopher" in her class and that's what he's known as. I can't say I know any adults with that name who are known as anything other than Chris. Same with Alexander - I don't know any adults with that name who are known as Alexander (or Alexandra), only Alex. There's lots of other children in their classes with long names that will undoubtedly be shorted in adulthood rather than the other way around.

Another vote for avoiding George though because of the Royal baby connection. I changed the girl's name I'd picked for DD (not knowing at the time that she would be a girl) because about three weeks before she was born Catherine Zeta Jones called her daughter the same thing (Carys) and a, I don't like her, and b, everyone local would have suggested I'd copied her. As it turns out, the name we chose has been a better choice because there's lots of Carys's in her school.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
