This is true. I cycle through all the kids names and pet names before I hit the right one.....

When I used to visit my Nan as a child, I always thought my name was NormanDavidMartinJackRichardSorryRichard. It never varied.

I have a walking stick, named after a very thin relative. How cruel is that.

Do cats even have any awareness of what their name is?

    Of course they do!

I tested this only on Monday. I said to DW, "We'll have to put Winkle out before we go!" meaning the cat would have to stay in the shed for the day, because we don't believe in cat flaps.

Cat immediately put together "Winkle" and "out," so 30 seconds later she was hiding under the washing on the airer. :D

(For the sensitive: we were only winding her up. Monday was foul outside, so we relented and put a litter tray in the conservatory, :))

Also, as others have said, can you even begin to imagine how many boys are now going to be called George?

I suppose Joyce Grenfell is too long ago now, but she pretty much killed-off the name in the middle C20th. :rotfl:

I wouldn't do it, but then I would never give a pet a person's name either, so it's an unlikely predicament for me!

I'd try to find another name you love. As everyone else has said, it'll be a really common name for some time now anyway. There are plenty of equally nice classic names you could choose that would go well with Henry.

Haha, the thread title made me laugh. My mum and dad's cat is called Pusskins so that'd be interesting if they named me after her! I think I'd have had a riveting childhood.

I know someone who has a child called Harrison (presmably after Harrrison Ford) and a dog called Harry, which is apparently an entirely different name. I cant help thinking the kid will have isses when he is older.

I definitely think the OP needs to reconsider her idea. I'm worried about the fact she thinks the kids names need to 'go together'.
  • My mom was given the dog to keep her company whilst she was pregnant with me, I was supposed to be called Sarah Lee. My mom went into labour and then whilst in hospital the Sarah Lee cake came out and they didn't want to name me after a cake so instead they called me Sam, unfortunately the dog that had come into our home was called Sam and co it's now known that I wS named after the dog. The dog ran away shortly after obviously with the shame the poor dog couldn't handle it lol x :rotfl:

Our friends had two cats, which they called Laurel and Hardy. They then got two more cats, called Abbott and Costello.

Forward a few years and two of the cats died......Laurel and Costello from memory. They were left with Hardy and Abbott.....other friends who were not aware of the history just look blankly at them when they call ABBOTT.......HARDY......

And there was another friend who's dog thought its name was "Come On Boys", as at diner time, the mum used to shout upstairs "come on boys", and everyone, including the dog, ran downstairs for dinner.
