I think they are both "makey-up" Victorian traditons :rotfl:
As one in three Victorian brides went to the altar pregnant, and it's anyone's guess how many were banging their HTB like a barn door and didn't get caught - it's not a Victorian tradition to not be sexually active before the wedding, makey upey or otherwise :D
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Yeah, that's a pretty common story.

Probably because it's a pretty common issue.
It's like surnames, it's incredible how many women have names that are so terrible sounding, or so difficult to spell and pronounce that they just have to take their husbands. No men seem to have that issue...

Perhaps they just want to. There's no shame in that.

What is with all these fancy-schmancy proposals.

Nothing wrong with a good old car park.
    Or a busy noisy pub.

It's archaic, it's not a 'nice' tradition at all. It comes from the time when it really was the father's decision because she was his property, and when the groom might even have to cough up a dowry and pay to get ownership transferred.

I've no idea why that's a tradition anyone think is worth preserving!

I'm pretty sure it is the father that paid the dowry not the groom! :rotfl:

(Not read any further than your post yet so others may have pointed this out already!)

Just what I was about to say. I only know one woman who didn't want to take her husband's name, so she didn't. Everyone else I know WANTED TO. Which is their right and should not be looked down upon or mocked.

This is me entering this thread started yesterday, read the front page, saw there was 10 more pages of discussions and promptly exiting the thread.

It's gone so far off topic, locking may be considered the right idea.

Back to topic - rings for free ?

Don't know how you could justify that ?

Yes they have dropped a clanger but no one has been hurt and she did say yes I assume !!

But free rings ????!!!! Your value of suffering is totally different to mine !
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

It's a wind up, the unbelievable part was when she replied "I don't think you were supposed to tell me that" tell you what exactly, it could have been any ring for any reason, why jump to a surprise engagement ring straight away. For me this is just another unbelievable troll thread.

Let's hope Michelle doesn't see this thread and realise what marriage to Daniel is going to entail ;)
