Erm yes, but where is the old interface?
Ok, my fault. You're quite right, when I said "you can quite easily use the old interface" I should have said that its quite easy to use an old style interface by adding one of the many third party addons.

Obviously this is easier to do for some people than others. e.g. a google search for "windows 8 start button" is a good place to start.

Or he could just look in one of the many Windows 8 threads he's already posted in where this has been explained before, complete with links and everything.

Hi, Lum - nice of you to drop in...

And of course, you would also recall from the various threads that the start button is not the only piece of the old user interface which is missing.

And I've tried a few of the add-ons, but the free ones do seem a bit clunky.

And you might even notice that I've said that the start button is not the most important item which is missing for me.

And you might note that I've mentioned WindowBlinds as being an add-on which does have the capability to reinstate other missing components.

And then you get into the question of what is "easy", and you start totting up the money, and suddenly half a dozen machines isn't quite so "easy" on the wallet after all.

The 8.1 upgrade went OK and works well on my Desktop computer. I have it set to boot to the Start Screen and I start programs from there, the same as I did with Windows 8. I've never minded the tiled interface. All of my programs run OK on 8.1.

The only addition I've got is Stardock's ModernMix so that I can run Apps in resizeable windows rather than full-screen. Mostly used for IE in Metro mode because a full-screen browser looks too wide to me on a 1920 x 1080 monitor.

All in all, Windows 8.1 is 'a hero' in my opinion.
