Windows 8.1 a hero or a zero

For once I mostly agree with a Prowla post about Windows 8!
Namely that it isn't a game changer and your previous opinion of Windows 8 can be safely upgraded to Windows 8.1 without any changes.
And yes the default yellow theme is pretty awful, didn't take long to get my nice purple one back though.0 -

I'd leave it a while and leave it to other people get the glitches out of the system.
I am very tempted to do the latter.
But I am needing to teach someone who is going from XP to (presumably) 8.1 when we get a new PC early next year.
The presumably is that new PC's will come with 8.1 as a default by the time we buy.
If it looks vastly different then no point in me (and my sanity!) going through lessons on 8.
Hmmm. I will have a word with my IT friend who is assisting the upgrading of our PC.0 -

I like Win 7 at least you can set user passwords, but Win 8 is linked to your Microsoft account so you need to login using your MS login details, but i dont find any other issues using win 8 or 8.10

8 and 8.1 are almost identical, especially if you're dealing with the sort of person who doesn't learn keyboard shortcuts or right click menus.
Both are radically different from XP, Vista and 7.earthstorm wrote: »I like Win 7 at least you can set user passwords, but Win 8 is linked to your Microsoft account so you need to login using your MS login details, but i dont find any other issues using win 8 or 8.1
You can skip linking to a Microsoft account and just create a local account on both 8 and 8.1.
Mine defaulted to local anyway as I installed it with the network disconnected.0 -
Well after a few days use of this so called better 8.1 update i am far from impressed. Get with the program Microsoft and give something that looks like a change and not more of the same.0

I don't want to tie my login to Microsoft's servers; it's none of their business.0 -
You could probably go XP to Windows 7 (which I actually like!), or Ubuntu Linux (which is nicer than Windows 8 IMHO). Alternatively you could opt for a Mac (and thus be really cool!).
I've already decided to go for Windows 8 I have been using it on laptop for months now I don't have anything major against it so no reason not to get it on new PC0
