Help! Even the SKY engineer is baffled!!!

Options
I'll start at the beginning and try to explain.

I moved house and the SKY engineer came to connect my TV (phone and broadband have to wait 2 weeks). he fitted a brand new dish and I used my existing box and cables from my old house.

The next day my I put the TV onto the wall bracket that was already in the house and moved the DVD and SKY box onto the shelves underneath the bracket. I had to unplug the cables as they were fed through my old TV unit. SKY wouldn't work. No picture - nothing. The green light was coming on on the front of the box though so the power was fine.

I checked I had inserted all the wires correctly but nothing!

I rang the SKY engineer and he said it could be the HDMI cable, and popped me a new one through the letterbox the next day.

It still didn't work.

The SKY engineer then came back out and changed the SKY box to a brand new one - it worked perfectly.

However the first time I switched my TV back on, SKY worked but the channel wouldn't change!! I switched the entire thing off at the wall, waited, switched it back on and it was fine. It was fine all the next day but did the same again the day after that, once again it worked after switching off and back on at the wall. Then it suddenly switched itself off altogether! As it was pouring down at the time, I blamed the weather. However last night it switched itself off 5 times in 30 minutes!!!!!!! I rang the engineer and he told me how to reboot the software - seemed to work then switched itself off again after 20 minutes. The engineer is coming back but has said he is baffled by it.

I can get SKY no problem through a SCART lead and I have tried the HDMI cable in all 3 separate places on the back of my TV. Could it be my TV?

I would really appreciate any ideas if this or something similar has happened to someone else. Thank god for the SCART lead as we'd have missed the England game (I have no normal arial).

I can't see how your TV would cause the Sky box to turn off.

Are you saying that with the scart lead connected the Sky box stays on and with the HDMI lead the Sky box turns off?

What make TV, model no. and year is it?

When the Sky+ turned off after 20 minutes, had you used the remote at all during that period?

Tiexen, yes I have 3 HDMI connections and have tried then all, the cable works on the kids TV with their X-box.

Jem16, yes the SKY works fine with a SCART lead and doesn't switch itself off and the engineer tried 2 different HDMI cables.

It appeared to work when he left on Saturday and he is coming back - he hasn't given up on me although he must be sick of me ringing him. It's just with him being baffled too I was wondering if anyone had any solutions I could suggest.

    Thanks for your replies.

Hi Walcott, the TV is a Panasonic but not sure of model (I'm not currently at home (no internet yet!) and I think it's about 5 years old.

I don't think we had used the remote as we were engrossed in Emmerdale at the time!

Can you try the HDMI cable with Sky on the kids' TV?

Is it still doing it this morning?

Can you try plugging the Sky box into the children's TV?
