Facing dismissal because of a mistake

Just a quick one, how did you get a temp job when you have been fired?
Can't you be happy for the OP? She didn't know at the time she registered she would be let go from her job. I'm very happy for the OP for finding something so quick.
Lots of people get jobs with agencies when they've been let go and depending on the reason can influence which direction they can take. Remember times have changed now and you can be let go at the drop of a hat with the new 2 year rule in place. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
I just want to get on with my life now. I have to work no matter what to provide for my family. They are most important. I'll be earning a quarter of my normal salary in the temp job, so it's not like I'm having an easy time, but I'll do anything to keep us going.
Thanks again for all the support. I really need to try and move on now.0 -
Can't you be happy for the OP? QUOTE]
You know what just what I was thinking - the poster shouldn't be so judgemental of others and I wouldn't comment if I was not in employment, perhaps they should look at why their still out of work first themselves before dissing others and their much respected efforts
Good for you Monty, keep going, even with my problems I keep in employment so other people in my situation can be too - that is my biggest motivator0 -

I got a new job within 6 weeks of being sacked and I told my new employer I had been sacked, what I told them was my version of events, as opposed to my employers, people get sacked all the time, a lot of people unfairly, thats why there are so many tribunals. Its not a case of being condemned for life, why should you be?
If you get another couple of references as time goes on you wont need to use your ex employer anyway, I wouldnt have wanted to use my ex employer as a reference at any stage and I didnt, I was also honest about that.0 -
That is surprising that they do that for all staff even if dismissed as the new employer will never kmow
People who are sacked arent automatically dishonest or theres something wrong with them that means that no employer should hire them.
My goodness, I encountered yet another boss from hell last year who had clear mental health issues, gave me a really tough time for months and then presented me with a letter at 24 hours notice saying she was sacking me, I was the second worker she did that to last year. Im self employed now because I really have had enough of difficult bosses, but if I wasnt, why on earth should anyone made to be feel theres something wrong because theyve been dismissed.
Ive told bosses when Ive been sacked. Ive been sacked twice, both unfairly, the first time I was dismissed it was for putting in a grievance about my horrible working conditions
Its hard enough going through tough times in jobs with employers who dont care about their employees mental health due to the way they treat them, without being made to feel theres something wrong with you because they dismissed you.0 -
I know there's nothing wrong with me. I work hard. I'm good at my job. I'm Hunan and I made a stupid stupid mistake.
I'm also honest, I didn't lie and I faced up to what I did. I'm also braver than I thought as I could of resigned and ran away. At least I have some dignity.
My family and friends know the truth and they know I'm not a bad person, and as long as I have them I know I'll be ok.0 -
I have never been dismissed so I cant tell you nor have I left a job without having a new one to go to so I really don't know.
If you didn't agree a compromise on the reference then your dismissal is sure to come up.
What a nasty series of posts !
You sound like you are jealous the OP has secured new employment so quickly.
I admire their positive attitude. Makes a change from the negative attitudes so many people have about finding a job. Obviously her positive attitude contributed to her finding another quickly -whilst others whine on. Getting fired happens for fair and unfair reasons -what happens next is what is important.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Just read the thread, really sorry about what happened to you Monty.
I wanted two say that going for temporary jobs is a great way of building up your references.
The other thing I wanted to say that in my experience sometimes good things come from bad things, it sounds like the previous job was making you ill, or at least preventing you from getting well.
It has happened to me, from a similarly bad situation I ended up totally changing direction and I'm now much much happier (although with less money)
Best wishes0 -

I've been reading this thread from the start but never had anything to add.
I just wanted to say though monty that even though you made a silly mistake and paid a very high price for it, the one thing which shines through the whole thread is your honesty and integrity. I think you will be a huge asset to a new employer. I am very sorry all this trauma has happened to you just before Christmas, but as others have said I hope that the eventual outcome will be that you find a new and better post without the internal politics your old one has, and that you will ultimately look back on all this as a blessing in disguise (albeit it seems like a very convincing disguise at the moment!)0 -
Haven't logged in to MSE for years, but I've been following this thread from the start, and just reset my password to log in and say that you sound like you'd be an asset to any company! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family, and that you are able to hold your head high. If I was interviewing you and you gave even a brief outline of the story you've told here, if anything I'd be more inclined to hire you. As Nicki said above, your integrity really shines through, as does your humility and desire to do a great job. I hope that in a year or so you're posting back here to tell us all how things have turned out better than you could have ever dreamed.0
