To be honest I'm relieved. They made out if I went to the disciplinary it would take into account the mitigating circumstances and I'd just get a warning and be on with it.

That's why I pretty much thought it was sorted out and it was a formality, but if it had gone the other way I'd be terrified of going back to more of the same.

I've got a temp job starting next week and I'll hopefully be able to spend Xmas and new year with my family for the first time ever, and I'll find a new job no matter what it takes.

Thank you for all the kind words, and talking through it with me.

To those I may have sounded grumpy with, I'm sorry, I've just had the hardest time and hit rock bottom, and I'd never want to offend anyone so thank you for understanding xx
Just a quick one, how did you get a temp job when you have been fired?

I registered with an agency, I expected to be dismissed so prepared for it.

It's only over December but it will pay my mortgage.

  • My employer has said they will give me a reference, and I've not been asked anything about leaving my last job?
  • How are you supposed to get a new job if you tell them you were dismissed? Obviously if they ask that's one thing, but you can't be condemned for life?

I have never been dismissed so I cant tell you nor have I left a job without having a new one to go to so I really don't know.

If you didn't agree a compromise on the reference then your dismissal is sure to come up.

  • When I asked about a reference they said its company policy to only provide dates, they don't do anything more. But I do have other references and I'll have one from the temp jobs so hoping that will be enough.

That is surprising that they do that for all staff even if dismissed as the new employer will never kmow

  • Well I don't know what else to say, I need a new job and I can't very well tell every potential employer what's happened, no one would employ me.

There's no reason at all to assume that you are blacklisted for having been dismissed. Companies aren't in a cartel, conspiring to keep workers down, and they tend to understand that although there are consequences for mistakes, or errors of judgement, that that doesn't mean that you should be stopped from working elsewhere.

Well, except in banking nowadays. Lose you job with us for "cause", and it's over for life, but in normal jobs it's just not the case.r
