Facing dismissal because of a mistake
Comments
-
I was taken on for an administrative job, received the job description etc. When I started the job was not what was in the job description. I worked similiar hours to yourself, became ill and just couldn't shake the illness off. I was dismissed.., there was a new director in charge of the branch who hadn't been there when I was interviewed and he told me he'd never have employed me if he'd have interviewed me lol (I'd left a good long term temp job for this 'permanent job' so that hurt lol).
After I left, they employed four people just to do the post.., and this was just a part of my remit lol.
I've never regretted what happened. Its only if you have been that overworked and tired that you can understand how stressful it is to be in that position so people who haven't can't understand.
It sounds like you are still in stress overdrive. If you go to this displinary.., what's the worst that can happen? It can't get any worse than your fears are making it in my opinion. From what has been discussed with HR.., it may not be as bad as you think. It could be an opportunity to improve things for yourself.
But before you go.., make a list of what you've contributed to this company as you have on here, as well as make a written statement (unemotional as possible) as to what happened. I can't believe they will dismiss you for £10 but they could feel it undermines their trust in your cash handling abilities as a whole so you will need to state clearly and unemotionally, what you have learnt and measures you will put in force to make sure it never happens again i.e. it can be viewed as a positive rather than a negative .., a learning experience.
The more emotional you are, the less confidence they will have in you as a manager. Take a backward step.., imagine you are defending someone else, not yourself if necessary.

OP have you got an update please? It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0

Well the minute I got there I cried my heart out. I just didn't feel strong. But I talked through it all and got my point across, and I'm facing the disciplinary on tues next week.
I can't do much more, what will be will be but my god I've learnt a lot through this ordeal.
Again hr did everything she could to be fair to me and reassure me I'll be treated fairly on Tuesday, and as said above, it can't be worse than what I'm going through now.
And if worst happens they said I will still get a reference.
Thank you for all the comments, it's sort of helped me work through it, and come to terms with the fact I can't run and hide. And it's a life lesson.0 -
And thank you OP for sharing what you're going through.
Good luck for Tuesday whatever the outcome may be.It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
I ll update on Tuesday. I feel like the biggest fool. I worry you'll all think how stupid I am.
However good to get it off my chest!0 -
Will be thinking of you Tuesday, a colleague once said the saying haven't made a mistake, had a boring life!
Here's hoping with the length of time this taken, lesser people wouldn't have stuck it, there is every good chance for you
Look forward

Good luck for Tuesday, and don't be so hard on yourself. You will get over this time, and you are clearly a good person and a dedicated and hardworking employee.0

Thank you
Have a tear in my eye again now! Xxxx0 -
Just read this thread - good luck on Tuesday - if they do sack you it's their loss if you ask me. It sounds so trivial and like it's got completely out of hand.
Although you are at your lowest now - things will improve once it's over - and no matter how it goes - at least you'll be out of this hell like limbo.
Good luck x x0
