Drink driving & insurance

Hi was wondering if anyone could give me some advice... I was charged with drink driving, driving on provisional licence and having no insurance and got banned from driving for 24 months in 2009 and now looking to reapply for my provisional and start driving but wondering if it would even be possible to afford the insurance at the age of 22 and if so how ridiculous is my insurance going to be for say on a 1.2 corsa

Insurance is going to sting, your driving history will be kept on record and made available to all insurance companies, who in turn will slap you with the highest rate, that's just the few that will be prepared to insure you.

With hope, after a few Years of driving (assuming you can afford the insurance) any no claims bonus's might help lighten the burden for you.

Do some quotes on the comparison sites which should give you some idea of what it will cost you.

It won't be kept on record for ever though.

  • I'd wait until it's been five years, insurance should be bearable then.

In the meantime have some lessons.
  • insurance for clean license on a 1.2 corsa is going to sting for a 22 year old, never mind having to declare in10 and DUI, driving not in accordance of a provisional aswell. youll probably be looking at unable to quote's on a computer screen from a lot of companies. taking the bus or taxi to work every day will save you thousends per year over insuring running and maintaining a car.

11 years for the drink driving & 5 years for the rest

both set to reduce once the new rehabilitation of offenders times get enacted
  • I was expecting the insurance to be costing a lot more than usual but not sure how much.. I've looked on insurance quote sites and can't seem to find a quote without even having my licence yet :/

Insurance only asks for convictions in the last 5 years. OP I would wait until the 5 years passes then start again.
