we have been looking for 'something' to ease my Nana's neck but all of the bags we have found have lavender in and it is too overpowering for her. I think I might have a go at making the corn bags but am a bit worried that the corn will turn to popcorn when heated :rotfl: what type of rice do you put in yours ? ...
Ah, which rice?Okay, it's not the cheapest per se, but I use basmati
But that's because I get it in *huge* bags from a local ethnic store. Any long grain rice will do. Tip: If you are using the rice bag heated in the microwave to warm it up ... a) make a 'pillowcase' for the bag for laundering purposes ... b) give it a spritz with a bit of water/Essential oil mixed every so often! Eventually the bag will dry out to the point where it could catch fire when being heated!! So, that periodic spritz is quite important ... c) use 100% cotton!! Other man made fibres can also pose a fire risk when being heated. Better to be safe than sorry! My dh sometimes get neck ache because of his work and he has found comforting relief using these.
You can add any essential oil you like, doesn't have to be lavender if your Nana doesn't like it. Lavender is used because of it's calming attributes. Check out some of the properties of essential oils on this web page:- http://www.aromacaring.co.uk/essential_oils_and_pregnancy.htm
and decide an alternative.
I can imagine why you are anxious about using corn  Never used it so can't comment (I have used cherry stones with good effect though)
I've just completed the two I'd planned to make and they've come out quite well. The only downside is, I had planned to make our girlie group these for their Christmas gift baskets, so I'm a bit stumped now what I'll do for K's ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Another week has gone by and I haven't been on MSE! I've been travelling around the country this week for work and had no internet accessBack home for a few hours, heaps to do but wanted to catch up here - even if just on the daily thread!
((Mrs Mortenharket)) Sorry to read about your gran.
N9eav, I hope your son's job interview went well.
I've just spent a couple of hours unpacking some more boxes in my flat. As my new place is so small I have to get rid of stuff, but it's really difficult to put things in the 'get rid of' box"! Now I just have to decide whether to charity shop, car boot or e-bay. I really can't decide.

Hi all,
Back from my very short three week trip to Sardinia...it rained twice and temperature has climbed every day since June began...was rather jealous that DD4 and DGS2 have another two weeks...all he wants to do is swim and 'surf'. Really enjoyed the trip and meeting old friends, although summer is their busiest time so they had very little free time, but they have to eat so we shared some lovely meals. Did very little touring as weather was so nice it seemed a waste. Only disappointment was that the apricots and figs were not yet ripe in the garden, usually I have wonderful breakfasts but they are just a little late this year. Direct flight Dublin -Alghero was a gift, no allowing three or four hours for connection at Stansted, we left house at 5.30 yesterday evening and were home at 11.30 including the time it took to find car in carpark at airport...DD4 left it there on her way on Monday and despite good instructions we had a ten minute walk!
Hope that all have been well while I was away..Kyle I gather that your LO has a fracture, hope he is improving. Mrsmortenharket, sorry to hear about your gran, be grateful that you have known her...my grandparents were all dead before I was born.
Garden looks like a jungle and it has been raining overnight so no lawncutting today. All the rose trees have bloomed really well but have been ruined by rain so will have to take courage in hands and wade in with secateurs. Will also have to shop although DDIL 2 has left me milk, bread and lovely breakfast things but DD4 seems to have used all cleaning products which were here.
Hugs to all in need and congratulations to anyone celebrating.

Try Ebay 1st, (think, revenue) if not successful, try Car Boot (think, a bit less revenue), anything left = charity shop (think, "what the heck!")
Ok, I'm sat here towards the end of lunchtime, imagining the "meet" between AussieLass, Snowy and Pink (bet there's a whole lot of giggling/gossip going on! Especially as Pink starts extolling the virtues of her supermarket butcher and his sausages!) and feeling a tad green  Can't you just imagine the hoots of laughter from those three????
Also, wondering how miolliere (sp?) is getting on, missing her posts and just know she's had a fab time at her offsprings wedding in Italy and her time in France. :T :T
Feeling rather bored ( shock, horror!) as I count the hours until the concert tonight. Cakes are baked, rice bags made ... housework sort of up to date - lack motivation to do anything else right now ... still ache  ... roll on 9am tomorrow when the boys come home!!!!! Oh, I know ... I could sample the wine I've bought for tonight ... 'cept, it's far too early (not that it will stop Pink, Snowy and AL:laugh: ) ... hmmm, "Queenie! 'Get a life' seems to spring to mind" There will be a fly over in the next hour or two, so maybe I should set up my pitch in the garden in readyness
Or, maybe, I'm admitting to how much I miss my lads when they are not here!? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi to all on the OS board today.
I've had a fun morning with DS (3yrs) today. I took him for a picnic by the duck pond, then to the local library and museum. We then got caught in the rain, but we must have been the only ones out with umbrellas, and wellies on! Everyone else seemed to be getting soaked.
When we got home we went upstairs to play, as OH was in the middle of decorating kitchen. So after a brief look on the net, I've come on here to say hi. Must go to DIY in abit, for some more paint etc. Hope you all have a good weekend. Powie..:DA woman is like a tea bag. You never know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.:D0 -

Hi everyone.
Just a quickie before tea.
mrsmortenharket ((Hugs)) sorry to read about your Gran
I've had a lovely day. This morning DD1 went to orchestra while DH drove around looking for new (cheap) wheeltrims for the car. I had a quick tidy up and did some washing.
Then after lunch we took the train into the city centre and went to the Waterfront Gospel Music Festival. It was to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade and also the 800th birthday of the city of Liverpool. The weather was a little grey but it didn't stop us from having a little 'dance'. :j
Tonight's tea is hm oven chips, fried eggs and baked beans. Then we'll settle down to watch Dr Who and the Tiswas programme.
Have a good evening.0 -
Hi all
A change of plan for me, DD2 rang to say her inlaws have gone away for the weekend, forgetting they were babysitting, so DGS is on his way over. Fortunately I had nearly finished clearing up the spare room, so there is somewhere for him to sleep. I think I'll take my dressmakers dummy out the room though, it may give him nightmares.
I don't expect I'll get much done with him here, still nothing is more important than spending time with him.
Hugs to all
Hester

We're home
Got back yesterday from our break in Blackpool. Great week, weather behaved at the beginning of the week but by Wednesday evening was lots of rain. Thankfully as we were staying at Pontins there was a lot to do. We went as part of Carers week and met some amazing people, some fab children with a mixture of difficulties who were always smiling and made us smile too. Food was fine, nothing flash but best bit was I didn't have to cook or wash up even if I did find myself clearing tables, wiping them etc
old habits. DSs did both end up with a water infection which could have been the tap water so stuck with bottled water for the rest of the week. DP caught a cold while we were there and was a bit GRUMPY! to say the least so I just kept taking kids out on my own leaving him to sleep or catch up later, I've started with it since Friday
. DS was in the pool several times which of course he loves the water so was happy. Unfortunately have put some of the weight I'd lost back on
Back on the diet next week.
Highlights of the week, seeing Keith Harris and Orville which brought back memories when a little girl went on stage to meet them, as 21 years ago I did the sameTower Circus which was brilliant and loads of people who were staying at Pontins went, seeing everyone laughing and smiling, just great. Other acts which were on at Pontins inc the Drifters were fab. Was a bit of a challenge getting DS in some places but we got him some ear plugs which came in very handy..
Other highlight was for my DS, where we stayed was in the flight path for the airport (tad noisy at times) he got a major thing with the offshore helicopter we seen several times a day. On the Wednesday I went and asked if he could go and have his photo taken next to it. They said ok on the Thursday which DS was over the moon about. Anyway when we went back we were greeted by the guy who works on the desk with loads of posters and stickers for the boys, then the pilot showed my sons around inc letting them sit in the pilots seat. They were so lovely with them, made my sons holiday.
Well that is about it really, spent much less than I saved up so have put that away for summer hols days out etc. Have a MOUNTAIN of laundry to do which isn't good considering it's raining.
Hope you've all had a great week. One day I might be more organised...........
