Just delurking to ask if I can join in your no sweet things gang please!

Going on holiday on the 1st July so I need to try hard.....been to a 1st communion this morning followed by a 3 course lunch and then Pizza Hut this evening for dd's 16th birthday.....finished off by seeing Spider-Man at the cinema with no treats though - but probably only because my two trips to the ice cream factory caught up with me lol

Thank you for the inspiration :D

Good luck with the no sweet things!!

I am trying gluten free for 2 weeks as I have been so ill after eating meals and what I have noticed is that I am eating less sweet stuff.

I think it is all connected, most of the gluten I ate was bread or pastry related and of course contains loads of sugar so I would eat the bread and then crave chocolate afterwards.
Since stopping gluten I don't even crave chocolate, we got some from Aldi yesterday and although I ate some I didn't crave it and ate it sensibly throughtout the day rather than in one go and then feeling sick afterwards:rotfl:

I wouldn't necessarily recommend gluten free to vegetarians as I am struggling to eat anything but rice and potatoes!!

Can I join your 'no sweet things' gang too please? I have been trying to stick to the 'natural highs' rules but I think banning sweet things will help as for some reason I've been stuffing biscuits and all sorts of things.

Will really help as I've just about spent everything this month now but did get a pack of 20 chocolate covered biscuits from Mr A for about 64p yesterday - would be nice to end the month with some still left :o

  • no sweet things sounds like a plan. Eager Elephant, i had stomach probs a few years ago and found that cutting out as many processed foods as possible worked for me. i've been able to reintroduce gradually since though i'm not sure that's a good thing ;)

  • Evening folks. Been out all day, like you Nonnie I was at a first communion and then I met up with friends and didn't get home until 8pm. Cider and champagne aplenty but my stomach is so uncomfortable now and my chest is sore and I am coughing. This always seems to happen to me when I overdo it with sugar and champagne and cider are just full of it. So I have decided that I need to have a go at this and see how my body reacts. I go away 2 weeks tomorrow so I am banning all sweets, biscuits, cakes and chocolate until then and I'll see how I get on. Join in by all means it'll be great to have some company along the way. I'm starting off with the sweets and chocolate as they are my worst things. I don't eat many biscuits or cakes unless I am in baking mode so that shouldn't be too bad. I'm not looking forward to it but I'll have a bash. So come back tomorrow night and report in on whether you managed your goal or not :D

So I had a very sociable day today and spent £47 in total. I'd put £10 in a card for the wee girl who was making her communion and the rest was spent on food and drink. It's been a bloody expensive weekend

Next weekend will be nearly as bad as I have a beer festival on Saturday ( hmmm sugar !) and another first communion on Sunday but I will take the car to that for definite.

Back to work tomorrow. Yay ...........NOT lol

    xx

I have cut out most processed foods as they all contain wheat.

My DH thinks I should start eating gluten again and then to go and get tested but it wont make much difference as the end result will be the same - to give up gluten. (Bless my mum, when she realised I couldnt have bread ever again she said !!!!!! that, I'd just take the tablets. I had to explain that there are no tablets!!:rotfl:)

Once I have been doing this a while I am not sure if I can reintroduce because I am scared of the pain and I know how ill I feel so maybe that is a good thing.

The scary thing is how many products contain wheat and barley - even Vimto contains it:eek:

Going back to the sugar thing, I think I am doing well I have managed 1 hr without anything sweet:rotfl:

    I will report in tonight
  • Day 1 and so far I have success. No sweet things all day. I have eaten loads mind you as I was craving terribly earlier. Girl in work gave me a big bag of sweets for DS as he fixed her computer for her and I have resisted. I am determined to do this. I bought crisps and nuts tonight for snacks. Nuts are healthy enough and this month I am still allowing myself crisps. When I feel I have got my sugar addiction under control then the crisps are going as well.

EE the last few nights in bed my stomach has felt awful and I have been getting pains from it right into my chest. I know it's reflux as I have been to docs loads of times before but I take tablets every day for this so should be controlled. however just now it is not so I need to sort out my eating.

I do eat healthily at meal times but I snack on sugary junk way way too much. I just need to get rid.

One know it all in work said to me today ' MIT it's all a matter of willpower' I wanted to tell her to !!!! off whilst scratching her eyes out. So annoying when skinny folks say things like that. I know she does watch her eating closely but she has never had a weight issue in her life. Again I know it's because she watches what she eats but I am convinced I am an addict.

Went to ALDI on way home tonight and stocked up on some essentials. I also bought a couple of non-essentials. This is because I hadn't bothered to do a list :mad:and I just wandered around shoving things in my trolley. I spent £41.74 and at least £10 of that was non essential. Everything will get used but we really didn't need it all. I bought a few different types of rolls as I spent £5 this morning on rolls, cold meat, crisps and butter for work. I then spent 55p on a small portion of chips at lunch to have on said roll. Sooo much more expensive buying things that way. I now have cold meat and rolls and pack up stuff for at least a week for DD and I. I put the Aldi shop onto CC as I have run out of cash for rest of month :(. I have been panic buying food wise as I am so scared of leaving kids with not enough food whilst I'm away. Crazy woman that I am. I paid £4 today for lunch tomorrow for a colleague leaving. I've worked with him for many years so I wanted to go along.

I've had a really busy month and it's about to get even busier. I have the lunch tomorrow, theatre Thursday night, beer festival on Saturday and first communion on Sunday again. Jeezo I'm skint.

Well done to MiT and Ali for no sweet things today.
MiT have you looked on the Beat website about compulsive eating and binge eating? It's quite interesting, I originally looked it up as I ate so much every day and couldn't stop and then of course I got the pain and felt ill and I thought I was binge eating but having cut out gluten I realise that was the cause of my overeating and pain.

I have managed all day as well, I swear this gluten free lark has made me less hungry.

Wasn't 100% on the rules of the no sweet thing so not sure if I need to declare cream that I used in a butternut squash bake?!?

    Good luck for tomorrow.
