  • Hello there, The wanderer has returned. Life has been rather crazy and I have hardly been on laptop. Do most of my internet stuff on phone these days but its too hard to see this forum so I don't even try. Anyway, lots of updates

Holiday was fantastic but I really felt my weight was a massive burden. I was sweaty, I hated how I looked, I was always red in the face, everyone was worried about my snoring and breathing at night and also for the first time ever I felt as if i needed looking after. My friends were giving me the seats. Making sure I was okay in the shade, getting me water etc and I was so ashamed of myself. Now I know the girls didn't mind but I'm the person who runs after people and I did not like it one bit that I needed the help this time.

First week I got back I rejoined slimming world and am back on track with that. I bought a fitbit to track my sleep and exercise etc and it must have a bit of a psychological effect as I have no strayed since I started wearing it. I also bought a 'big bum' seat for my bike and am going to get that fitted and have a go at that. My plantar fasciitis in my foot is so bad I can hardly walk some days so I reckoned cycling would be a good alternative.

I was then house sitting for clients for 4 days and a bunch of friends and their partners kids etc came with me one of the nights. This house used to be a hotel and then was a wellbeing retreat and I swear it was as if it was giving you a hug as I have never been so relaxed ever when away from home. I completely fell in love with it and cannot wait to go back.

I was still trying really hard with debt but I have had to bite the bullet and get my bathroom and kitchen done. V I know you will chastise me for it but I couldn't hold off any longer. I need to get bathroom done before kitchen as it leaks into kitchen. Costing me £4k for that. I don't have a quote for kitchen yet but I reckon about £6k at least. My cooker only has 2 rings now working. My second oven is broken and that has the grill in it so we have no grill. My fridge is leaking and 2 of my cupboard doors have come off. I have no drawers in it so my cutlery and dishtowels etc sit in the bottom of a cupboard. I just cannot bear it any longer. I had a card with £10k limit on it and was offered 0% for cash transfer over 14 month so I have done it.I took £8k. I fully intend to pay as much of it off as I can before 0% ends and I am now very excited about it. TBH the thought of coming on here and telling you guys was really annoying me but it just had to be done. I'm not prepared to live in a hovel where nothing works. So please understand :(

So life is still mega busy. All the money I'm earning just now is being put aside for the kitchen as I reckon I will be short by about £2k. I should manage to pull that together though between now and November when I'm hoping it qill be done. So Christmas is cancelled in the MIT household this year but my kids are adults and looking forward to a wee decor update.

I hope everyone is well xx

Good to hear from you MIT,sorry about the hols situation and good luck for slimming world. After 18 months of Plantar fasciitis most of the pain has gone just occasionally a twinge to remind me, so I have sympathy regarding this.

Agree with you on the house situation sometimes common sense has to prevail and you have to do what feels right for you. Once this work is completed you will feel a whole lot better and feel more motivated to pay off the rest of your debt. Xmas is being scaled down in our house this year, Ds's are all adults now and moving out so a nice quiet xmas with not much spending is on the cards.xx

    Hi MiT,
Of course I won't berate you! It seems as if you've worked it all out carefully and have a sound plan in place to get the amount paid with minimal/no interest. A good financial decision. I hadn't realised quite how bad your kitchen was. Well done for holding out so long!
Glad you had a lovely holiday and I wish you well with the weight loss plan.
What fitbit did you get? I've been wondering about getting one for about a year now. How do you use it and how does it help? I need to lose some weight and being reminded to move more sounds like a good idea.
Congratulations on your new plans. You're certainly not one to let the grass grow under your feet.

  • Aww thanks guys. I was all worried that I was letting everyone ( including myself) down. V my kitchen is an antiquity. I'll take a pic and pop it on here later. I am getting really excited now and also anxious. Trying to use up all the stuff in freezers and cupboards so that when the time comes I can get a nice fresh start. There is no need for me to have quite so much food at any given time but I buy big when there are bargains so I always struggle for space. My new kitchen is going to have tall integrated fridge and freezer so I will have lots of space. I've also said I want a huge larder cupboard so all the dried food and tins etc can be in the one place instead of in 3 different cupboards :D

I've managed to put by another £540 and should get that to over £1k by end of month so I am up to £5k available for kitchen. If push comes to shove I will use Argos for white goods as I get 9 months interest free with them. Everything is just so expensive  and I am desperate to buy a new teapot etc but am not spending a penny that doesn't need to be spent.

So a night in doing laundry and chilling tonight. No need for any heating as 2 dryers going full pelt. Have a great weekend folks xx
