Sorry to read you've been unwell, hope you're feeling better by now. Tricky one with the FIL; when my parents divorced my dad's family had nothing to do with us again (despite the fact my dad left my mum for another woman!) and I only found out my granddad had died 6 months afterwards. I was fond of him when I was a child and it was unfair that I was cut out like that, so I can understand how your kids feel.

Just been having catch-up - happy new kitchen and bathroom - you're so determined you'll get the debt paid off quickly.
    January spends - £587.58
  • Evening folks. Time for a wee catch up about my crazy couple weeks.

Got a new machine for my sleep apnoea and it really seems to be helping. I haven't fallen asleep in work since I got it. However I then found a lump in my boob. Went to GP and was sent to consultant clinic the following week. What a week I put in. I was really worried and had convinced myself that I had cancer. Funnily the treatment or dying wasn't really concerning me but I was worried sick about my kids and also financial issues. I couldn't stop thinking about what sort of position I would leave them in if I died. I also was wondering how the hell I would manage financially if I was sacked from my job for being off. Crazy thoughts. Thank God all is well.

So then in work we were informed that we will be closing. Now I learned this news as I was interviewing for staff. I mean !!!!!!!! We will be open for 5 years apparently and I now have a 5 year plan. I have crunched the numbers and I need to pay off £1112 per month to manage my goal.

Goal is to pay off debt completely
    Pay off mortgage
    pay off secured loan
finish what I want to do in house
    landscape gardens.

So I am now on a mission. I should manage this if I try really hard.

Had to add £914 to debt for tax man. Was going to pay it off via my wages but decided against it and will just pay as I go.

Honestly been an absolute roller coaster month but thankfully all is well and I have a plan in place which should give me options when the office does shut. My dream would be to retire early as I will be 57 then. I could carry on part time with the cleaning and laundry and see how that goes. But as I said in the meantime I will work towards having no expenses except for normal bills if and when this all happens. I'm not going to bury my head in the sand and ignore this as I don't want to get stressed when it happens.

So I am now exhausted as worked most of the day and am heading to bed. xx

Hi mit, what a horrible time for you! So pleased that health wise your ok, totally rubbish about the office closing :( my brother is a civil servant and he found out this week that his office is staying open, he really wasn't sure what was going to happen. Unfortunately 2 of my friends work for the Clydesdale Bank and both of them will be out of a job by June, both of their branches are closing and there are no longer jobs for them, so unfair. Take care of yourself and I know you'll blast that debt no problem! xx
  • Thanks Nonnie. Been a !!!! couple of weeks but onwards and upwards. Glad your brother's office is okay but your poor friends. Did you ever feel that Westminster have it in for us :rotfl:

We are on a clean up mission in our house today and then going into my old aunts for dinner. Need to head into Aldi on way and stock up a few things as well so I better get off of here

Wow mit rollercoaster doesn't begin to sum it up. How horrendous to have those thoughts worrying about your kids. Thank goodness it isn't cancer.
But of course you have a plan! Wouldn't expect anything less from you.
Shame about the job but you never know with that in the offing you'll be more alert to other potential opportunities if any present themselves. Could be a blessing in disguise.
I was so happy to see you'd posted as it's a bit of a rarity lately. But you're obviously so busy with your family and 2 jobs plus your ongoing plans for the house. Lovely to hear from you and well done on the plan. £1000 plus pcm sounds a huge amount to pay though.

  • So glad it's good news all round for you MiT. I've just had a similar boob scare and it's shocking the things that go through your mind.

Best of luck with the 5 year plan Xx

What an eventful time you've been having! Glad your health scare turned out alright. Bad news re the job but at least you have 5 years notice. That's a great plan you have but a scary monthly amount! I don't doubt that you'll do it. Good luck.

  • Thanks for visiting folks. Life should hopefully be a lot more settled now so I'll be a regular visitor. V of course I have a plan. I always have a plan. I don't often stick to it but it's there all the same :rotfl:

The £1000+ sounds massive but includes my normal mortgage payments so most months should be achievable.

Going to phone mortgage company tomorrow for advice on overpaying so I can get that started asap. I will meet my target this month and ab it extra so I am happy with that. I still can't get the snowball to work for me. It was working on my phone for a few weeks but has gone down there as well. I'll just keep my own records and hopefully I've did the maths correctly. Best get some sleep now xx

  • Evening folks. Payday tomorrow :).

Bit of a quandary . I phoned my mortgage provider today re overpayments. Turns out it's not a mortgage that I have after all. It's registered as a loan and due to end 2030 so still 13 years to go :(. I can vaguely remember the loan rather than mortgage as it was something to do with special rates my ex got as he was working in an insurance company that had special deals with this bank. This means that I don't get any penalties if I repay early. So my plan was to overpay each month and that would mean no penalties however now I won't get penalties regardless I think I might concentrate on my debt and just hammer that and then look at housing loans. I was a bit excited re paying off house a wee bit each month but financially it makes more sense to hit the other debts.

Ok now that I have written that out I am clear in my mind and debt will go first.

Got slow cooker on just now cooking chilli and it smells amazing.I'll let it cool off overnight and get it into the freezer. I need to start getting a lot more organised with food as I've been spending way too much buying lunches and convenience foods and it has to stop.

Earlier bed for me tonight but must say my sleep apnoea seems to be under control and I am no longer mind numbingly tired. It's wonderful. So goodnight. God bless xx
