I would wait until 22nd October if you can- as either prices should drop for the bottom of the range iPad 2 (currently £329, or you might get the current iPad with retina display for that price ie goes from £399 to £329.0

Non-Mini and 3G according to the original post.
Is the third generation Ipad still for sale? I was going to ask how much the price difference is but a quick look is only showing the Mini, Ipad 2 and ipad 4 available. My concern with choosing the older third generation model would be the older processor which some people find doesn't hold up too well with IOS7 and the lack of lightning connector which going forward is the standard for Apple devices (although may not necessarily be an advantage if the household has a lot of 30pin connector accessories). Unless of course there is a decent cost saving.

Teach daughter Money Saving ways - get her to explain to S-I-L that she'd rather wait for the new Pad to come out so she can get more pad for the money.
Reinforce this with the comic strip if necessary...

Don't underrate the iPad mini, I moved from iPad 2 to one and is just as usable, plus so much more portable, my wife's fits into a slim handbag. The mini can be held much easier and weighs seemingly nothing compared to the 9.7" one. Sound quality of the mini is the same as the bigger one and it has the lightening connection. New version out soon too.0

Don't buy the current iPad mini - it's effectively a small iPad 2, which as I said is increasingly out of date.
However I have an iPad 2 and don't plan on replacing it - it works fine, I've got ~60gb of games to finish before I start to worry about not being able to play all of the latest ones. And my mother is perfectly happy with her iPad 1, and also has no intention of replacing it.
But really don't buy an iPad 3, it would be a waste of money - in terms of performance it isn't much better than an iPad 2/iPad mini, because although it has better innards it also has higher resolution using up all that power. Go for a 4 or if you don't want to spend that much, a 2 or a mini.
It would be far better to wait until the 22nd though.0 -
Apple discontinued the iPad 3 last year right after announcing the iPad 4.0

I would recommend the Hudl actually. The price is far lower yet the performance is definitely comparable.
I have an iPad 2 for the record. I really feel the small amount of RAM. It only has half the RAM of the Hudl. Why pay more?

The Hudl doesn't have 3G which the OP says they need, and has a smaller screen than an iPad mini which is what they don't want.0

Right i'm more confused.com than anything......lol
That comic strip was funny, but can be true of all sorts, when I wanted a Samsung s3 phone, everyone said hold off the s4 will be out soon, and the price will drop, so I did and the drop was a huge £15....lol..........that's another story though.
Whatever you buy will not be worth the price you have paid once you have walked through that shop door with it.
I know it's all about moneysaving, but he wants to buy her a I-pad, and be able to wrap it up and give it to her on her special birthday, and to be honest you can't put a price on that.
Oh darling I know it's your birthday, but i'm moneysaving, and if you wait a week I can save £30 on a better I-pad..:rotfl:printed on a piece of paper isn't quite the same. :rotfl:
he wants to get a I-pad because they have I-phones and want to stick with the same product.
The mini isn't what he wants to get her, so it's just the best price I can get for a I-pad 4 with 3g.
thanks0
