When is her birthday? There's supposed to be a new iPad being announced in about a week's time, which will result in price cuts for existing models.

If he can wait a little bit longer, there should be new iPads and existing model price cuts in November.

You should copyright that. Motivational nutters have made fortunes on lesser quips than that.

Aren't that many choices to make - black or white then 32, 64 or 128 GB for a retina (don't buy the 16 gig.) £579 to £739.

Then buy a sim - typically about £15 per month for 10 GB. (Ridiculously low allowance - make sure your daughter knows how to keep tabs on it.)

Alternatively if your daughter already has a phone you could buy only the wi-fi iPad and tether it to the phone.

I know it will be belated, but it's probably a good idea to wait and get her a better iPad for the same price as a current iPad. Otherwise in about a month's time her iPad will be outdated and could've been bought cheaper as well.

I asked him to wait, but as were away for her birthday, he wants her to have something to open on the day.

So a I-pad that has 3g, what's my best price and where to start looking.

    If anyone can help

    thanks.

Buy it in person from an Apple Store, and turn it on in store and check it for dead pixels - if it has any they will replace it there and then. Both iPads I bought had one dead pixel, but neither of the replacements did.

If you can't get to an Apple Store, then any reputable shop would be as good as any other, the prices are all the same, or you can buy it from Apple's website:
If you want a new one:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/buy-ipad/ipad
If you want a refurbished one:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad

Buy a 4th generation one (the current version) - don't buy an iPad 2, I've got one and more and more apps run slowly or have fewer features on iPad 2 vs iPad 4. And the newest version of the operating system has many features disabled on iPad 2.
Don't buy a 16gb one, it doesn't have enough storage space.

This comic strip seems relevant and always makes me chuckle :o
  • I'd go for a 32GB 3rd generation. It runs iOS7 fine, and has retina screen.

John Lewis has a "minimum 2 year guarantee on all tablets". Also no fuss getting one exchanged if a dead pixel is found I would have thought.

If light usage only is being considered on 3g, there's also the famous Ovivo SIM.
My wife uses one in her iPad mini for rail trips - not paid for 3g data since.
Up to 750MB free data per month once you've bought the SIM at I think it was £15.
Data speed on the Vodafone backbone it uses is a tad dodgy though, rather depends on where you are travelling. You can order the Ovivo micro SIM to fit the iPads no need to cut your own.
