  • This is one thing I WON'T compromise on:D.....if ever we are out on a Sunday, I will do the roast on the Saturday or Monday evening.

We usually have Chicken, Lamb or Pork. Occasionally we have Beef. Chickens are roasted in the Remoska, Lamb either slow cooked in SC or in the oven and Pork roasted in the oven.

We normally serve with roasties, mash, yorkies, cauli/broc cheese, mixture of veg we have in fresh or frozen, roasted veg sometimes and stuffing etc....obviously not all together:o

We don,t because dh was brought up by MIL to have one every Sunday without fail regardless of what anyone had planned - plus he doesn,t really like potatoes so has rice with a roast:rolleyes:.

However we do like to have something special on Sundays so often would cook a full Chinese or Indian with several dishes instead.

Last Sunday we had Rib of Beef, Yorkshire pud, Roast pots, Roast Parsnips with Balsamic vinegar and brown sugar, Baked beetroot and steamed purple sprouting, all with my very best 'from scratch' gravy.

    That sounds amazing! nomnomnom...

I have never done a full roast dinner. I will soon.

We had a roast last night (both worked weekend, OH had yesterday off so treated us) but we roasted the chicken, and has with boiled jersey royals (whoopsied :D) and scrumptious steamed local asparagus (I always wonder if I am going to turn into a spear of asparagus at this time of year, its our real extravagance with food lol)
Did a really light gravy/sauce just with the juices of chicken with a glass of wine added (leave it in the cooling oven while chicken rests and veg finishes cooking)
Was really nice and made a great change from a heavy roast with all the trimmings, which we love, but aren't very summery. There was a recipe that sounded really good in last months good food or delicious for basque roast chicken which had artichokes and other veg roasted around the chicken and served with rice, sounded delicious, but can't find it now :(
I love roasts, but in summer we will often have a barbeque instead. Or moussaka, lasagne, stews, that sort of thing in winter

We rarely have a roast dinner as there's only the 2 of us. Tend only to make a roast when we've got visitors or at Christmas.

Sunday past, we had meatballs and spaghetti with garlic bread. I'll also try and make things that I don't have time to do during the week. I also make a big pot of soup that will do DH's lunches for the first few days of the week.

We very rarely have traditional British meals (meat and two veg types) so our "Sunday dinner" is based on that idea rather than strictly a "roast" as it was when we were growing up, as I still like to keep the event alive, iyswim? :D This means I do potatoes, carrots, and usually peas and sweetcorn or broccoli/cauli, then some meat. If we have beef (in whatever form; stew, roast, mince) then we have Yorkshire puds too. On really warm days we might just have salad with the meat and pots, rather than veg and gravy.

The meat element has recently been:
Lamb Meatballs (we actually had these on Easter Sunday with salad rather than the peas and lettuce I had planned)
Mince and Onions (I do this in the slow cooker)
    Roast Chicken
    Steak
Toad in the Hole (either with sausages or minced meat made into meatballs)
And I plan on cooking a ham this weekend.

Sunday dinner also means a planned pudding, as the rest of the week we will just take some fruit, yoghurt or a quick milk pud as we fancy but don't often bother; usually is is just something for DD on request (and that is usually a banana or semolina, handily for lazy me ;) )
Love and compassion to all x
  • We quite often have a roast on Sunday, but not every week. We sometimes fancy a roast midweek so will have it then instead.

I don't eat meat so a roast in our house is roasties, lots of veg, yorkshires and something like a lentil loaf or veggie sausages. Sometimes I'll mix it up a bit and do veggie toad in the hole with roasties and veg instead. I find that it keeps it interesting to vary the veg- this week we had roast sweet potatoes which was lovely, I sometimes stir-fry some savoy or red cabbage with it which is delicious too. If I'm feeling very domestic I'll cook up some cauli cheese with it, which will then also do for a midweek meal too.

If we have family over we tend to have a buffet tea on a Sunday which always goes down well. If we're having a busy weekend then we do sometimes have something quite quick like pasta- it's just nice to have a little more time than usual to sit down together and enjoy it.

We always have a roast on a Sunday. We have a fried breakfast at about 10 o'clock, and then dinner at 3 or 4pm. I always do the whole thing, and use the leftover meat for Mondays' dinner.
Sunday wouldn't be the same without a roast!

We have a roast most Sunday's through the winter when it's cold and dark I'm happy to be at home cooking and sitting in front of the fire. In the spring and summer though, we want to be out and about so it's often barbeques, picnics and salads on Sunday.

Skintchick, there's an earlier thread on the same topic that may give you more ideas:

Do You Have A Roast Dinner Each Sunday?

I'll add this thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.
