  • Never, never did when I was growing up and would never dream of it now. Roast dinners are for Christmas Day, it spoils it if you have one every week. Seems pretty expensive too.

If he wants a special dinner can't he do it himself?

'Fraid we nearly always have a roast - beef, chicken, pork or lamb. In fact, our 4 week meal plan depends on the roast to kickstart each week. Sometimes we eat out (the local chinese does an "eat all you want buffet" on a Sunday) but usually...it's a roast!

We had a lasagne last Sunday, as I rarely make it in the week as it takes so long. Sometimes we have a brunch of full cooked breakfast, then tea of sandwiches etc. But I have to confess I do like a roast dinner, quite often we get half a shoulder of lamb or brisket and roast it slowly - dead easy to do, make some yorkshire puds, mash yummy!

  • Last sunday we had chicken fajata's. How about something jacket pots with fillings and salad or pizza and salad. New pots chicken and veg. Lasagne, fish pie. Must admit if it was just me and the kids, I would come back from church and do something easy and light, like HM burgers, baps and salad. ;)

  • We have a roas every other week, it varies from pork, lamb, chicken, beef, gammon it really depends on what i have bought reduced in tesco or asda or what is on special. We then have a stew on the following Tuesday.

There are 6 of us and it is something we all enjoy.

I was thinking about this the other day funnily enough! I do a roast every Sunday too & am getting bored. I did lemon roast chicken last Sunday with salad & new pots which was much easier and made a nice change.

I have a mutiny on my hands when I suggest something other than a roast dinner lol. The leftovers usually go to make Mondays tea though so it's not too bad.

I shall read this thread with interest.

one of our favourites and reasonably cheap is pork chops with homemade stuffing
    prepare the stuffing
melt 1 1/2 ounces of margarine in the microwave , add an onion and cook for about 50 seconds add an egg , some sage and about 4oz of fresh breadcrumbs
put the chops in an ovenproof dish , top with the stuffing and cook for about half an hour
they are very very yummy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • We sometimes have a 'fake' roast - Grilled/oven baked chicken breast portions [or other cuts, whatever needs using up for example], mashed potatoes and two veg with the all important gravy. A lot less cooking, washing up & faffery but everyone still feels like they're having a roast!
